Most people think I am crazy when I bring this one up, my parents say I just need to brush my teeth more often. As a child I used to have meltdowns becuase of my teeth itching. I was always told it was impossible for teeth to itch and that it was all in my head. I had a really cruel teacher who would tell me to stratch them when they itched. She didn't believe me and probably thought it was a ploy to avoid school work but the sensation was so distracting and uncomfortable, I wouldn't focus on my school work. The "itch" is from deep inside the tooth and and biting something really hard usualy curbs the sensation. Pencils, gum and the special necklaces and stim toys made for autistic people are all too soft. I need something that won't bend when chewed such as the handle of a tooth brush and even thouse are usualy too soft. Sometimes shoving something such as a TV remote up against the "itchy" tooth helps. The fourth teeth from my canines are usualy the teeth that are "itchy". I've been tempted to pull them out with plyers. I should have had them removed with my wisodom teeth but I didn't want to look like a hick and I somehow doubt you can get single teeth dentures. let alone get dentures in your late teens. Oral hygene isn't one of my strong points becuase toothpaste burns and stings my mouth and lips and most flavors make me sick. I have to use baking soda or just plain water.

My teeth get a weird uncomfortable sensation sometimes if I don't brush and floss them at least twice per day. The discomfort is like an itch, but not quite. There isn't a good word for it. If you experience any discomfort, then keeping the teeth clean can only help, I suppose.

My teeth don't itch, but I do find myself still chewing on a lot of things. I've lost a lot of mechanical pencils this way. Almost like I'm teething. For some reason, I just like chewing on stuff. (Stimming?) I want to now. >.>

One of the few things I liked about sports - chewing the mouth-guard the whole time.

Your not crazy.. or we both are..

if you lightly run your tongue along the gum line of your premolars, does it 'tickle'?

Look up somatic sensory impulses, pretty sue that was the name my dentist told me years ago it seems...

our bodies are amazing things, that we use and abuse one way or another each day, yet we know nothing about them generally.. heck most know more about a car they will smash up or trade in then they know about their bodies..
I had a root canal done on one tooth..
the itch went away for that one..

I used to have that itchy sensation, but it hasn't happened for a long time. I never did find out what caused it, either. As for dental hygiene, I can no longer stand the sweet taste of most toothpastes. For some reason, the smell alone makes me gag. And, my teeth don't feel clean after using it, either.

I have started using a prepared tooth powder, which I order from an Amish catalog. It is rather salty and chalky tasting, but a small bottle lasts me a long time, since I've only to place a small amount in my palm, dip my toothbrush in, and brush away. That, in conjunction with flossing and using a copper tongue scraper, keeps my mouth clean and my breath pleasant.

I remember a Rocko's Modern Life eppisode (I think it was the one where Philbert was turning 21) and he was so apprehensive, everything itched...including his teeth and stratched them with his nails (turtles don't have teeth or nails. Silly animators). I remember playing a Ren & Stimpy video game and in one level you were supposed to walk around in someone's mouth but if you steped on a nerve, you lost. I always thought my "itchy" teeth had something to do with the nerve and I remember learning in school when we studied teeth had nerves in them. If teeth could hurt, why couldn't they itch as well. I always found an itch worse than pain. Dity or clean, my teeth seem to itch most when I am under stress. My mom always told me I used to grit my teeth a lot as a kid and she was worried I was going to look like a vampire by the time I turned 10, I wonder if I was gritting my teeth so much to make the itchy sensation stop. As I said, my teeth would "itch" so bad, I would have meltdowns and tantrums. Please remove that video because it apears to be disturbing and this is a support thread. The link dosen't work but the picture is still disturbing. That cartoon would induce meltdowns in me as a kid and some people here have extreme aversions to things like that. Please remove it and simply describe the epposide in text. WP is supposed to be for support, not averson.

Not to be redundant, but this is obviously related to the itching you spoke of in another thread. You need to get to a doctor who will check this out for you. It could be more serious than you know. Forum posting won't get this problem solved for you. See a doctor!! !

That has happened to me when I have eaten spicy Doritos or salsa.

I've had this happen, many times.

Including from Doritos like the person who posted the post above this post, although it usually happens whether I eat anything or not.

I get this every day. My teeth itch from inside and the only thing that cures it is eating something chewy, so I carry chewy sweets with me when I go out.

I remember that feeling of teeth itchiness when I got my wisdom teeth taken out. My gums were extremely itchy. It went away few days, but it was so itchy. I use an extra soft toothbrush and a sensitve toothpaste.

I just posting to see is this is common for people with ASD. If I told a doctor my teeth itched, he'd think I was skitsofrenic and commit me for life and/or dope me up on brain killing drugs. I've given up trying to find help for most of my problems because most doctors don't know what I am talking about or think it's because of the autism. If I got hit by a train, they'd probably think that was because of the autism as well.

ASD people often get things like this I think.
I'm schizophrenic by the way (see signature) and I don't think your doctor would do that. And not all antipsychotics are brain-killing drugs as I take two of them at the same time on prescription and they actually help me think better than when I'm ill.
