Good at visualizing lenses, but low visual-spatial IQ

I'm good at visualizing lenses, but I do horribly on visual-spatial tests. Is this some kind of splinter skill?

Optics is your special interest.

What you said makes sense. You're more motivated when it comes to lenses than to most things.
