So... I work in a helpdesk environment IT support. Same job 16 years. Started out with 4 people and now we are over 20. We moved into a new location and all that stuff. Changes out the yang yang that have been nuts.
Management moved me to a quieter desk but I am surrounded by noise on all sides. I use my gun-range quality earphones which helps a lot - WHEN I AM NOT ON THE PHONE!! When I get a call I get the full audio from all sides hitting me. I get nausea and my brain does the shut down. People on the phone ask if I am still there. But my brain can't understand their words and I can't even make words very well. I keep telling management but this is how the environment is now. Uggggggg. I have nightmares about all of it every night - have for several years now with changes.

Does anyone else work in a situation like this? What do you do????

Luckily for me, I am able to filter most of the workplace sounds out.

If I had it at your level, I don't think I would be able to work at your place.

I would be searching for a quiet job somewhere. Maybe a warehouse.

Would it help a little if you put an ear plug into the ear you do not have the phone up to? I know it would probably feel a little odd, but it would cancel out some of the noise.

Is there an earbud that will fit under the headphones? Kinda like a Bluetooth set. Not the Uhura type. The ones around your neck that have the tiny earbuds on the wire?
