What IS "Kiwi Farms"?

I keep running across references to that group on WP.
The name sounds like a harmless supplier of your grocery store produce section.

But one WP person swore that they were being followed and harassed online by Kiwi Farms. Wondered if that person wasnt nuts, but now I learn that Kiwi Farms is under police investigation. So that person was probably a sane real victim.

Googling the phrase is dangerous. You end up on sites that MacFee warns against because of malware.

The impression I get is that it must be a site for misogynists (males who hate women), and that it must be centered in New Zealand (because both the bird and the fruit called "kiwi" are associated with that country).

I don't have any idea really, sounds like a garbage website I wouldn't go to.

It was originally a forum about Chris Chan and now it has evolved onto ripping onto other people with ASDs and others who seem unusual.

Gosh. For a boomer like me its hard to wrap my head around this new internet universe of U Tube bloggers attacking other U Tube bloggers.

Have seen Chris Chan's name crop up on WP. So I have a vague idea who he is. An attention hog who might well have deserved derision (maybe even sought it out).

But now we have one wierdo (Chan) inspiring a whole group of net wierdos(Kiwi Farms) to unite around hating him. Once formed now this group proceeds to hate on other folks as well. Great!

To learn more about Chris Chan, visit sonichu.com. Chris is an autistic guy, probably medium functioning, who lives in SW Virginia. He created a cartoon character he calls Sonichu, a mix of Sonic the Hedgehog and Pikachu which is one of the better known Pokemon characters.

A drawing of Sonichu wound up on 4chan, which is a sprawling message board devoted to stuff like "hentai" (Japanese cartoon porn) and which used to be the lair of some people involved in the original Anonymous hacker group. 4chan people decided to troll Chris, and found him to be very amenable to believing anything the trolls threw at him, no matter how stupid or crazy.

Chris likely has a low IQ, I don't know if it's ever been tested but from what I've read he probably is technically mentally ret*d or whatever the politically correct term is nowadays for low IQ people. Anyway, sonichu.com used to have a discussion board about Chris, and eventually it morphed into Kiwi Farms, kiwifar.ms (yes, that is the real url). Kiwi Farms is a board devoted to trashing "lolcows", internet eccentrics who are amenable to being trolled.

Another site is encyclopediadramatica.se, Encyclopedia Dramatica which has thousands of pages about lolcows and other eccentrics such as serial killers and what they call "an heroes" or people who have committed suicide and made the news for doing so. Some of these names have really obscure origins that don't make a whole lot of sense. For example, the whole "an hero" thing goes back a decade to some 13 year old boy who killed himself after losing his iPod which may have had videos on it of him masturbating and/or having sex, and his classmates posted weird eulogies to him online, and one called him "an hero". You probably don't want to register/participate on any of these forums, since many of the regulars are sociopaths who can turn on somebody on a dime and try to ruin them. It's ok to simply READ it however.

A whole industry is spawned, including folks who painstakingly slave to duplicate the look of Wikipedia, just to keep track of, and make fun of, this one autistic guy!

The crowd of folks who set up and or follow these sites about him or far more pathetic than he is. A lot of folks need to get a life!

Just some random troll forum, I checked the site out once from one of the links here and a solid number of them actually identified themselves as on the spectrum too. Internet drama for bored bored people.

I searched for my name on that site and I'm happy I haven't found it.

i believe the term has been recently amended to "intellectually disabled".



yeah, that's pretty much how it started out. i don;t see what is so fascinating about this poor bloke personally, to thers he must be an endless source of amusement..somehow. like a circus, or watching a trainwreck. it's horrific, but you can't look away, morbid humor to some but to me...

i don't understand.

anyway, it's basically a site where people come together to observe and record the daily activities of "lolcows", easy targets for ridicule they've managed to find on the internet. WP itself is a lolcow (and honestly, i can see how it might be). like cringe threads on 4chan.

i would just ignore that site altogether. we don't need this crap again.
