Our restricted interests

We all have our own restricted interests, we all like some things and we all can become obsessed and need to talk about them, learn and think about them.

My obsessions are to know and distinguishing cats and dogs breed. I search and learn their names and differences every day. I love the Rottweiler, Toy Poodle, Basenji, Manx, Russian Blue, Chartreux, Munchkin and British Shorthair.
I also like everything that is green. When I walk outside I'll always check for green things.

What are your restricted interests at the moment? I'd like to know.

I remember reading about cat and dog breeds when I was little.
And still enjoy tests like, "If you were a breed of dog, what would you be?"
In my case, it would be a Bernese Mountain Dog.

And green is a nice color, nothing wrong with having a favorite color.

Here's the thing:

Why do our interests have to be
"restricted"?

Or called
"special"?

I have interests.
Some deeper than others.
Some for far longer than others.
Some that the majority of people may not relate to.

I guess the thing about interests to keep in mind
is that when dealing with other people who don't share them,
it's polite in conversation that
each person gets a chance to talk about
his or her interests, ..
and the other person's interests.
Fair is fair, right?

Anyways, since I've been little, I've loved
Star Trek, astronomy, bird watching, languages,
and am now also into
art.

Good, then.

My special interests are genealogy, history, law and politics. They have individually and collectively been satisfying to me and have benefited my professional life significantly. They aren't the usual autism interests. In fact, my math skills are only good enough to complete a small-business tax return. Don't ask me about quantum anything. :lol:

My special interests are Germany, WWII, War in general, The 60s, classic television shows, The Kinks, London because that's where The Kinks were from, and sleep and dreaming.

I forgot to add The Summer and Winter Olympics and Arts & crafts.

Because we live in a world of dilettantes, flitting from subject to subject, supping a bit here and a bit there, and never stopping to drink deep.

So any interest that someone pursues with rigor and depth must be pretty special.

My special interests alternate, but they all involve things like exploring, mapping, sorting, collecting, cataloging and stuff like that.
