I've always piled on the blankets growing up when sleeping and never knew why. Even during the hottest summers in San Diego, I could never feel comfortable without the weight on top of me. With my recent diagnosis, I now know why! I'm wondering if a weighted blanket would help me to sleep better.

Have any of you used weighted blankets with positive results, and if so, which companies did you buy from?

I want one but can't afford one in a weight suitable for my size. I think the good adult ones run about $300. But I am curious if other people like them as well. If they are really awesome I will try to save up for one. I do have an issue where I easily overheat so I am wondering if that would be a problem. In the winter it might be great though.

I bought one for my ex. I ended up using it more than him  I generally found it too hot (I like sleeping in winter with window open sometimes!), but the weight is nice. I could have stood to have a heavier one while it was ON me, since the weight is distributed all over the body, but moving it around besides that is already quite the effort so a heavier one is not. I ended up using it when I was emotionally upset. Cooler than a big hug.

Growing up my bed was next to the wall and I liked the resistance of pushing against the cool wall quite a bit, although now I don't do that. I think I get the same sort of comfort as that gave though.

I bought from hippo hug. It was like 300$ish. The blanket used discs as weights instead of beads.

The ideal weighted blanket for lots of people would be a chainmail one I think, because it could be cool or just pure weight but that's like, way more work to make :-p

Chainmail is a great idea. I never thought of that. It's easy enough to get. Ren faire reenactors use it all the time. It is expensive though but you only need one. Your blanket does sound nice too though. Can you remove the discs to wash it? Can you also add more discs to make it heavier or remove some to make it lighter?

I got one a year ago and it's been AMAZING! I wish I hadn't waited as long as I did to finally get one. I use it every night to sleep, and it definitely helps. I also use it during the day when I need it (anxiety, sensory overload, meltdowns etc.) Make sure you get the correct weight. The general rule is 10-12% of your body weight plus one pound. But it can be up to 20% of your body weight. (It think reason behind the maximum weight is because too much weight can cause blood clots or something if the weight is on you for a long time. I could be completely wrong about that though.)

Mine is 16 pounds, 42x72 inches, and cost $145. I got mine from this company https://magicweightedblanket.com , but I know there are a lot of sellers on Etsy that sell adult blankets for a lot less than $300 too. (Also, if you have a proven medical need for it, like a dx of autism, a weighted blanket is a tax deductible medical expense.) And there are lots of tutorials on how to make your own if you know how to use a sewing machine.

I really like mine. It's cotton and only has the poly pellets in the inside so it's not too hot for summer, or at least for the summers in Connecticut. The one thing I don't like about it is that the squares of the poly pellets are large. I sleep on my side, so with large squares, the pellets tend to slip to the edges and off my side, so I have to pile the blanket on top of me when I'm on my side. But it's well made and machine washable, so I think it will last me for many years.

I did not know it was tax deductible with a dx. That is great news. And thank you for the heads up for etsy. I never even thought to look for one there.

You're welcome. I heard one etsy seller recommended the other day for weighted blankets. I think their name is crazy rabbit or something.

Are there anyone else who has a weighted blanket who can recommend a manufacturer/seller?

I've been wanting to buy a weighted blanket for some time, but my financial situation only just recently improved...

I'm looking for one that ships internationally, btw, as I live in Denmark. ImeldaJace already mentioned one (magicweightedblanket.com), but it apparently only ships to the US and Canada.

Actually, there are quite a lot of manufacturers of weighted blankets in Denmark (Five or six, I think, which is a lot for a niche product in such a small country). But all the Danish companies charge around $ 1,000 or more for an adult blanket (Dafuq?), so I'm looking for some cheaper options...

Cool. Thanks. I just looked at some on Etsy. They look really nice. I have to see what weight I would need.

Is that $1,000 USD or Danish dollars? If it's USD that is way too expensive.

I have a weighted vest and a weighted blanket, and find them both to be very helpful. My mom made the blanket for me with minky fabric and plastic polyfill beads. If you have even basic sewing skills, there are a lot of tutorials on youtube and other places. I think it cost her about $70-80 to make, and it weighs about eight pounds.

I've recently been looking into getting another one though, because, much as I love how soft the minky is, it's too warm to use anytime except for winter, so I've been eyeing up this Etsy store, https://www.etsy.com/listing/163484132/ ... =related-0, which makes very thin blankets out of cotton, and will be getting one once I can afford it. If you're one who finds squeezing or proprioceptive input to be helpful, I'd highly recommend a weighted vest or blanket.

USD, unfortunately :(.

Apparently, several manufacturers make weighted "ball" blankets, where many small balls are responsible for generating the weight. These are generally pricy as hell, though, and it would be annoying to make that kind of investment if it turns out not to be working for me.

Have you look on eBay? I got my 25lb blanket for about $180. It was custom made and took about 3 weeks for them to finish.

Even in summer I sleep with a sheet, heavy down comforter, with a heavy knit wool blanket on top. Good thing we have A/C and the wife likes the bedroom cold.

How do you know what weight is best for your body?
