I'm wondering if any of you high functioning employed folks have trouble on the first day off. Mine is Saturday but that might not be your shift.

Little things seem to get to me. My new slogan (seen on a T Shirt)
SHIFT Happens.
Me-- working on remembering another quote that helped me 28 years ago, long before my diagnosis.
There are no big deals.
I added unless I make them big deals.

I'm not Aspie, but my first day off is Monday and I find myself extremely emotional with a short fuse. I change my sleep schedule back to sleeping nights and waking up mornings. I'm usually back to being somewhat ok around Wed. Exercising helps.

I've been
A. To several workshops on Secondary Trauma
B. To yoga 5 times in the last 2 weeks
C. To the fridge for ice cream mixed in yogurt with pecans on top
D. Using Meh as a mantra but may change to Shift Happens - though my wonderful wife doesn't like either
Thanks for sharing real world stuff here and elsewhere on WP

I have 3 day weekends and it's typical for me to spend the first day really dazed and spaced out, usually sleep in really late and then just stumble around the house in a stupor.

Last night of the weekend is what really gets to me though, once the reality hits me that I have to go back to work, job anxiety sets in and I get "the dreads." Except sometimes I stay in happy fairyland denial until Monday morning. Denial is the worst actually because it means I'll stay up late trying to prolong the weekend and then be exhausted in the morning.

Though it is stressful I really like my job and it is and has been a great opportunity.

I hope to read others real world experiences.

This. It's really difficult, knowing that the next morning I need to go back into an environment that forces me to partially shut down & then stay that way in order to appear functional to everyone else. I do the stay-up-late avoidance, too.

I go through this too. My last class is tomorrow. But, I start having to prep and figure and plan on Sunday into Monday. And, I stay up late too to make things last. I hate waking up on work day.

I hadn’t ever considered it before, but now that you mention it, yeah. I have a long history of really crappy first day’s off work, school, whatever constant activity I'm at.

during the school year my only day off was sunday. it was funny though because my school and work schedule (besides on saturdays) was not affixed to closely followed routines and so i got used to not having many expectations or plans. sundays naturally became the most schedule abiding day for me because I would stay in bed until mid-afternoon and then my partner and i would usually go to a specific chinese restaurant and order the same thing every time. then i would run errands or do housework, go to my studio and make random things, or do homework if i knew i couldn't get away with doing it all on monday.

i think the way i tended to do the same thing over and over again on sundays was almost like hitting a "reset" button.
