Amateur diagnosis of fictional characters is pointless. In addition to the possibilities of bad acting, bad directing, or bad writing (or any combination), there is the possibility of the characters being specifically created and produced to merely depict autistic-like behavior - this seems to be a common occurrence in both comedies and dramas, where characters purposely have no depth, backstory, or long-term motivations. It's only a movie, after all.
What do you think about the "Doc Martin" series? Personally, I think they get many of the issue spot on.
Spot on to what? He's a grouchy, pugnacious, professional lacking in social skills when dealing with the "lower" classes. Similar
fictional characters include Ebenezer Scrooge, Charles Emerson Winchester, and Oscar the Grouch.
Without the character's negativity, the series would have been a human-oriented remake of "All Creatures Great & Small", with little or no drama, and certainly no romantic/sexual tension between Martin and Louisa.
Martin Clunes in real life is a friendly, jovial gentleman farmer who likes horses and people - nothing at all like the
fictional character he portrays.
