Disclaimer I don't want to force treatment on anyone that doesn't want it, this is my experience and mine alone

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/children-wi ... res-study/

So a few years back I discovered that autistics have different facial features. I went to a plastic surgeon to discuss this and he said that the muscle above my nose was working too hard! He injected botox into it to treat it.

I feel like the area above my nose is much cooler than before and therefore I can focus better :D

Bunch of crap.

Autistic people do not have different facial features from the general population, usually.

Only diagnosis on the autism spectrum (and barely that) with physical features, is Rhetts syndrome.

Apart from that people usually go "Oh, but i cannot see anything wrong with you". (Duuh)

That's what the plastic surgeon confirmed and I feel much better.

Wouldn't it be great if someone could put Botox up someone's nose who has severe autism, and immediately cure that person?

We would have a veritable Botox Rush!

There are subtle physical differences that show up in the autistic population. Like sandal gap toe, asymmetry in the face, mouth slantedness and mouth twitching. Also hyper-mobile joints.

All this stuff happens with non-autistic people, too.

Perhaps, these are signs of a genetic disorder which has autism as one of the symptoms; rather than a sign of autism, per se.

I'm wondering, too, if this thread is serious or sarcastic. Is there anywhere I can find the actual scientific paper on this report and know how they came to this conclusion?

If the OP had some pain in the muscle above his nose that was a real bother and ruined his focus, then I can see the reason for botox. Otherwise, I'm confused.

I believe there is some asperger/autistic look I suspect the same way there is a "gay look".

Although plenty of NT people look stupidly ugly so I wouldn't worry too much.

No.
None of us have heard of it.

Why does not nonsense like "botox treatment for autism" warrant us knowing about it?

There is something fragile X, a rare genetic anomaly that creates cognitive challenges as well as joint hypermobility. Some people diagnosed on the spectrum will also be diagnosed with fragile X.

There is NO truth in what you are saying here, though, about the general population of autistic people. Its been proven again and again that there are no external differences with autistic people.

This is why, even if this is a joke post (and I have to assume the OP is joking) its not cool. Because some young kid who is newly diagnosed is going to read this stuff and assume that its true because they are autistic and take things too literally. And then we have someone who really does believe that "mouth twitching" is a sign of autism.

In this thread's honor, I'm going to start a new thread called, "things I believed because I didn't pick up that someone was being sarcastic."
