My special interest is glasses and optics. I've always payed attention to people's glasses and the way the lenses distorted their face and background objects. It was just something I noticed. I didn't think it was anything special. I often thought of people as the brown nearsighted boy or the dark blonde farsighted girl. I thought it was just like noticing someone's hair color or outfit.

I also noticed this in anthropology forums. A lot of people said I have obvious Native American facial features and they can't believe people think I'm white. People do think I'm white because most people don't notice Native American facial features. It's just not something people pay attention to. Did you have any similar experiences with your special interests?

I notice things in pieces of music that other people don't seem to notice.

Sometimes it's like I could be listening to a completely different tune to everyone else.

Music isn't even a special interest for me and I hardly even have music playing, but I must just have a good ear for it.

Not related to my special interest, but related to my perception, yes.

I see and hear many things which are obvious, so i dont even consider discussing them, while it is a strange thing sometimes.

For example; untill i was 25, i was convinced that everyone could see color in the dark, which made me surprised when a friend couldn't distinguish between a red and an orange car when we left a party at around midnight

I recognize people from really far away based on how they walk. As a teenager, it drove me nuts trying to pretend I didn't know someone was present. I'm realizing that most people don't do this, but for me, it really messes with my timing, as in when to say hello to people, which is another topic.....

Also, I often recognize deeper issues that are troubling people, where nobody else pays attention. I don't know how I can miss some really obvious things that everybody else notices, like status insecurity and jealousy, yet it is crystal clear to me when someone is socially anxious or in love with their best friend.

I'm good at spotting small details when out walking to photograph. Little things seem to jump out to me walking by, whereas it seems to go unnoticed by most others.
