Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience?

I'm actually trying to sort out what is the drug & what is my chronic ANS (sympathetic) hyperarousal - which I've found a couple of studies about recently, connecting it to Autism. Quite exciting for me.

But forget all that - I really just want to know if this is a problem for others.

Thanks! Zel.

I was on an ssri for two years, I found it made me even more hyper than is my usual state and since I have enough zest and frenetic pace naturally I couldn't cut it any longer and I was sleeping about twenty hours a week which sucked so I went onto a more sedating med in a different class which also has been more effective for my mood than the ssri's which also kinda dulled me despite being overly stimulated, it was a weird duality. They all work differently on how they affect the serotonin and dopamine and noradrenaline neuros and brain chemistry plays a role too so sometimes there's a mix and match kinda thing you have to explore.

After being on the SSRI Celexa for a while to treat generalized anxiety disorder, I started becoming agressive. I don't mean in a violent way, just overbearing. They said I was devloping disinhabiton. That went away as I was weaned off the med.

Thanks for replies.
I guess I'm just going to have to wait til I've been off antiD's for a while to see if I'm still in hyperarousal mode most of the time :?

It's possible. If you're lucky, it might be a side effect of the particular SSRI you're taking rather than the whole class of drugs. Some doctors are willing to switch you to a different SSRI or SSNRI if it looks like there's an issue, so it's worth asking. I have some experience of this:

The first one I was put on didn't have much effect. The second I insisted on being taken off after three weeks because I'd suddenly became angry all the time, with a wierd taste of blood in my mouth too. The third one hit the spot. I'm still not sure if it's working as an antidepressant, or just that it makes me able to sleep more than three hours a night.
