(I'm sorry if this offends anyone, but this "omg going nonverbal" and "omg meltdown time" are really disgusting to me and autism blogs on tumblr use them alot..... also I AM against curing autism and i do my best to focus in its good things but here it is....)

this is big in this nerodiversity movement on Tumblr right now, they are like "OMG going nonverbal al of a sudden! Take out my aac app in ipad" or "OMG meltdoewn time! gonna screaaaammm in my room alll night!! !"

like on blogs like bitterautistic and other autism blogs, they dont know how very seroius meltdowns are and how many autistics literaly have to wear a helmet because they can't stop hitting themselves in the head and how meltdowns can punch holes in the wall and cause property damage? how's that funny for 'OMG meltdown time!! !'?

dont they understand self-injurious behavior is to comunicate pain and frustration others cannot imagine and headbanging can also feel good if the person is suffering from a headache during such distress? 8O

bc meltdown for asipe/mild autistics like probably just crying in their room, covering their face with their hands and maybe subtle head hitting but not enough to hurt them selves, just to make the pain go away.

also "OMG nonverbal episode!! !" or "OMG going nonverbal!" like they're in public at college campus or pizeria/itallian restarant and want to talk to somebody but their voice disappers all of a sudden. what about autistics who can't speak at all, or those who ARE verbal have limited speech like a few words or sentences and dont have great speech skills? also some autistics have selective mutism where there chatterboxes at home but mute out in public?

also what about autistics who are either nonverbal and/or have extreme issues in verbal communication who cant talk on the phone at all or talk to other people who NEED NEED NEED that high-end 200$ AAC app on their ipad? the autistics running these blogs with AWESOME NORMAL verbal skills saved up their allowance and got themselves such an expensive app like a personal christmas present on a day that wasn't even christmas...

its really disgusting, these 'meltdown time' and 'nonverbal time' jokes, just because an austic is nonverbl his/her whole life dosent make him/her less deserve of human rights.

heres thee helmet im talking about, its to prevent serious injury from self-punching in autistic people who hit there heads alot and/or bang them against things.

this ones a toppen helmet from RehabMart, also haveyou heard of self-injurious behaviour disorder that cause one to hurt his/herself incessantly? lets show respect for everyone

All terms and words in the entire language can be used in a trivial manner, a misappropriated manner. We see that all the time with "OCD" -- someone with no diagnosed issue who just likes to keep things neat will say "I'm so OCD about my desk, hahaha!"

It's nothing new.

Yes it's gotta be offensive to people severely affected by autistic meltdowns when someone uses "meltdown" trivially just because they've had a hissy fit.

I'm sure these terms have even passed into the general population just like "I'm so OCD!"

There's nothing you can do about that. It's not something to waste energy getting upset about.

it isn't the same as saying 'omg im so OCD!! ! :compress: ' its much worse

*another tumblr user named NeuroWonderful flaps her hands on camera and says "OMG GOING NONVERBAL AGAIN!! !!"

Many autistics cant even speak or have poor speech and most cant live by themselves and some never make it to middle and high school and never go to colege.

i feel these tumblr ND-community users are laughing at others whom cant achive what these people on this blogs like bitterautistic can do, such as write blog posts and go on dates and talk in sentences rather than repetive words :(

its like they literally (the ND-community people like bitterautistic) although i dont hate them and they do have things i agree with (like cute pigs and memes) but they literaly care little if at all about 'the other guys', i you know what i mean.

also they dont see autism as a disability but a normal brain of being, and think its just a personality difference. also if you dont belive me, bitterautistic has this mini activity book "mini autistic mini activity book" that says 'your special interests are..." Yeah, but EVERYONE has intersets including those 'NT' people! like pigs and dinos and space

autism does have sunshine 8) but is a very serious life-long disorder not meant to be joked with or use to make fun of others. :(

many of this kids with it never go to college, and im one of them whos never went to middle nor high school, i wish they'd understand  last 2 years ive stayed home miserably with an angry father (i love him but his atitude is rude and terrible) and driving my bro chris to his work and GED school but that another story

Some people try way to hard to be quirky and different -_- people love to think autism makes them inherently different and excuses them from normal human behaviour like emotions, and forgetting things.

People see fictional people with autism like rain man or even people who just seem autistic and think to themselves "i identify with them therefore i am autistic" even if they never had a meltdown in their life or had serious issues.

I read before from an autism book about telling people before your going to meltdown but i find that extremely difficult because i either cant talk or cant recognize that i actually am going to meltdown.

I find on thing that hurts the autism diagnoses is " people with autism have high IQs" and people saying "my IQ is over 150" when in reality all they did was take an online test. I should know, i took an online test and got 115 only to find out after an actual test preformed by an actual psychologist it showed to be overall poor in many areas.

That shirt isn't bad 'I'm not ignoring you, I have autism' I'll probs be getting an alert card eventually might as well just print myself a whole wardrobe of shirts with different sentences on to explain what I have difficulty with through being autistic instead.
