Carers or support workers

I am curious as to how many people on here have somebody who is payed to support them? How do you feel towards them? Are they good at their job?

Biggest thing I can tell you, is be careful. I knew one guy who left a Nursing home (He was a young gangster who got shot up and can only move his head) he had a nurse sweet talk him. Basically she lived off what the state was paying her to watch him and he lived scott free. Problem was that he liked her and would constantly ask to give girls 'head' so she convinced him it was romantic in nature.

Needless to say she barely took care of him, and had men come over who gave her what she needed well he could hear EVERYTHING. Bottom line, watch yourself don't let them take advantage of you.

I know for some people it does work out. I had a aunt who like me was different and she decided to be an assistant for an older man with a disability lived with the guy for years and it all worked out and he left everything to her.

Yes, indeed a lot of stuff can go wrong. I'm a support worker myself but I'm trying to become more conscious of how it feels from the other side.

Yes and some people I know of treat care workers like garbage. Like substandard slaves who are just there to do their bidding and accept their abuse because they're not happy with their lives. Honestly some patients don't even treat care workers like they're human with their own lives, not to mention specific job descriptions, and not just an indentured all-purpose slave. Some care workers may be in the job to take advantage, but from my experience most are there because they genuinely want to help others. Can go either way.

I've never had one, and have never needed one. Although someone whom I don't know personally did mention it as a possibility.

For me at least, it would be a lot of unnecessary effort and a complete waste of time. Of course, other people may find it useful.

A social aide comes to visit and she helps me with social and other needed skills. I have improved well, along with communicating better socially.

Nothing of the kind here. AFAIK an ordinary Aspie isn't entitled to any such help in the UK.

You mean it's a postcode lottery? If so, is there a map anywhere? My doctor told me categorically that all I could have was antidepressants if I got depressed, and sedatives if I got anxious. I'd like to know if she was lying.

It will essentially depend on what you get your needs assessed as, which I guess will depend on the local council. I'm not on that side of it so I can't be very helpful
