i just got back from the doctors after taking this test to see if they need to refer you to a specialist to get diagnosed. they give you this test paper with 10 questions on, then score it, you have to score 6 out of 10 at least to qualify for the referal.
well my result is that i scored 9 out of 10....it actually surprised me...i didn't think it was that far if you know what i mean? so yeah, im getting that referal apparently and they will contact me soon.....tense times. oh and my dad knows about this now which means im going to have to go through his endless questions and wanting to talk loads about it.
its kind of a surprise even though i kinda knew it was going to be something like that...

I'm excited for you! I was scheduled to have my assessment next week but my clinician cancelled and wants me to help me find a service that provides a full diagnoses. It can be frustrating and like you said, tense. I think that's good your dad knows, too. The questions might get annoying by try to remind yourself that that means he's trying to understand better. That's much nice than if he wasn't supportive. Good job going through it!
I'd love lots of questions. In the 3 months since I told my mother I was pretty sure I had this, she hasn't bothered to look up Autism online. My dad is dead, but he wouldn't have cared either. No one in my family really cares. I imagine too many questions could get irritating, but it's better than the alternative.
Good luck to you, I'm not much further along, I finally get my test results tomorrow. Take care.

My mother told me "you are surely not autistic!" and even ridiculed me for believing I am. I wish I hadn't told her.
How exciting to be getting somewhere!
When I first got officially evaluated by someone qualified in my neurological disease, they did all sorts of weird tests and asked me all sorts of weird questions that I never would have thought of. I also had that, Wow, I didn't know I had all that going on thought at first. But then I forgot all the little things that didn't impact my life. It doesn't matter if you do or don't do X, Y, or Z if it never causes a problem for you.
PrivatePyle99- I'd also be interested to hear your results, if you'd like to share. Did you get evaluated without telling your mom, since she didn't seem interested? Why do you think she reacted that way? That's kind of rude, since you're an adult, right? What if you'd suggested some other major thing, like, "I think I'm a different race" or "I think I'm a different gender." You don't just shrug those things off as if you'd suggested that you might like a different kind of toast in the morning. Do you think she has some personal negative experience with autism?

I don't mind at all, the appointment is at 1pm ET tomorrow, I'll post what I know once I've got them.

It would take an entire book to explain my mother. Unfortunately, I'm currently living with her because I messed up my last living situation. My mother cares only about herself. She's more than willing to fake any disease that will get her attention and make people feel bad for her. You literally can not have a conversation with her without it becoming a discussion of her current illnesses. She's been caught by hospital staff pretending to be unconcious. I was an EMT for 3 years back in the 90's, I actually got the 911 call for one of her fake suicide attempts, had to transport her. I think I was 7 the first time she told me I was the man of the house and couldn't cry because I had to take care of her. It was one of the many times her and my father split up before finally getting divorced. For 2 years when I was 13/14, I had to help hold her down every single night because she had seizures. I found out later, working in EMS, that what she was doing those nights was not seizures. When my uncle died, she gave a 20 minute speech that was entirely about her and how she now all of a sudden had the same disease he died from. I'm babbling, it's a difficult question.

What the h*ll...? You're going to have to have a three day wake for her when she finally goes to her Great Reward to make sure she's not faking it. Or get her a coffin with a bell in it.
Well in that case I guess there's no use in getting her to understand an actual diagnosis.

hey, so im ressing this thread with my soulstone (WoW references are flying out today for me) to bring an update on this, turns out my dad may be borderline autistic, and my mother is slightly too, neither of them enough to qualify, yet i have all the traits from the both of them, and thus i have a fair bit more then enough to qualify.
interesting to learn these things isn't it?
oh yes, and on a family note, me and my father have never gotten along too well ( i suspect i come across as a bit of an A hole sometimes), arguing a lot. well now that he's learned that im extremely likely to be autistic, he understands me a bit more, is more forgiving and more explaining, so now we got along better! much better infact, its sort of like a mutual understanding now

Hey, I spent a few years in Stormwind. That's great about your dad being more understanding. I imagine that's got to feel really good.

yeah, theres less tension now really, haha im spending sometimes days in wow following people around with my demons, they either get freaked out, think they have a new pet suddenly, or get really annoyed at me, hehe classic. did that to a couple of RPers too, got my voidwalker to stand on the table they were all sitting around, none of them could see a thing due to all the dark mist haha. they go SO annoyed about how their immersion was ruined, but they were the ones that tried to insult me and even kill me with their RP powers (of which i ignored). ah good times to be had in WoW, especially stormwind.
generally i think with my dad i have a fair amount of a trust issue with him, i become a lot more silent when he's home (he works all week away, then comes back during the weekends) and a bit more on edge, well im silent most of the time, but you know, more silent. its a weird relationship. probably a therapyish thing needed there.
but at least its sort gotten better
