Looks like I'm finally going to find out what's been going on in my head. I get the Autism test results tomorrow. They called me on Monday to say one of the tests I took almost 4 weeks ago was inconclusive and I had to go back in and take it again. The woman even said sometimes it happens that when people are taking so many tests, they get tired and don't fill them out correctly.

She was full of crap, I went back in on Monday to re-take it and it was a test they'd never given me in the first place. It was the RAAD-s test. When I got home, I looked it up and took it online and scored a 187 or around there.

I'm really, really nervous. I've now taken 4 different online tests that all say I have this, yet I'm terrified I'll get there and they'll say "The tests show there is absolutely nothing wrong with you, you're just a loser." I know it's not logical, but that never seems to stop me from worrying.

One more day!! !

Ah, here's your actual thread about your tests. They gave you a RAADS-R? Don't get me wrong, I really like that one. I think in combination with the Aspie Quiz they give you a pretty definitive diagnosis. But it's good to have an "official" one to take to work and other places that you might need documentation.

Will you tell us what they tell you that the diagnosis "means"? I would be interested to know that. Also, what kind of doctor is this diagnosing you?

I had gone in on June 24th and did 3 hours of tests. I don't remember what they were called, one had the word Minnesota in it, I believe, and two had titles that referred to Autism. Then there were a few computerized things and some color reading things. The RAADS-r was the one they didn't give me initially but then apparently decided to add to the list.

The Doctor is Dr. Marry Murray, Psy. D. Here's her info: https://www.healthgrades.com/provider/mary-murray-yl6n4.

I'll let you know what they say tomorrow.

Weird, I didn't see autism on the list.

I think you mean on the doctors list of treated conditions? It took hours/days on the phone with my insurance company and calling all over town to find her. The insurance kept giving me lists of doctors, I'd call them and they'd say they didn't test for Autism in adults. I called the Autism center at the University of South Florida, they told me that not old did they not test in adults, they knew of no one in the Tampa Bay Area that did, and if I found someone, they likely wouldn't take my insurance (Through medicare). I believe it was them, though, that sent me a list of possibilities to try that I found her on that list.

I'm pretty unhappy with the whole process right now, some of it I can attribute to her office, so I'm not sure I want to stay with them for treatment. But then I think if I go somewhere else, it'll probably be another 3 months before I can be seen and I'm tired of waiting, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

Do you think it was this?

MMPI? It's a personality disorder test. That's not my area so I don't know about it, but I think it's good to screen out that type of thing. As, like a control. At least you'll be able to definitively say you have, say, hysteria...or....schizophrenia?

Seriously, is hysteria really a diagnosis anymore? If I knew in advance that I was going to be given that test I would look up the answers to be diagnosed with hysteria and give all those answers just to see what they would do about it.

MMPI is very, very comprehensive. It originates from Minnesota.

Yes, that's the one. And it's 600 true/false questions. After filling out all of those bubbles, I have to admit I felt a little hysterical myself. :-)

I completed the MMPI five times in as many years during high-school and college! I can quote it now. But, it appears that the MMPI copyright has expired (or was abandoned) because I see many of its questions in today's multiphasic personality tests ... word for word. The MMPI was criticized for its Depression-era control group of young, white and married people from rural Midwestern geographic areas.

The results are in: Autism Spectrum Disorder, Dyslexia and Major Depressive Disorder.

The tests they gave me, as listed on the report, are: Conner's Continuous Performance Test II, Conner's Continuous Auditory Test of Attention, The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2, STROOP Neuropsychological Test, Digital Vigilance Test and the Ritvo Autism-Asperger's Diagnostic Scale - Revised.

My score on the RAADS-R was 154. It says the mean for a normal person is 21.39 and for a person diagnosed with Autism is 133.83

She mentioned some recent studies on Oxitocin(sp?) that look promising for treatment but they're still a couple years away. I've got recommendations for places to call for a psychiatrist and therapy / support group type stuff.

I'm so happy that all of the crap in my life wasn't all my fault. :D

Congratulations!

Wow, no wonder you are depressed. Dyslexia AND autism? You must feel like you are living in upside down world all the time!

John Elder Robison has taken part in some of those Oxytocin tests. I really like his writing. He might be a good place to start to read up on it.

Thanks AspieUtah and SocOfAutism.

I was diagnosed with Dyslexia when I was 7 but I thought it went away. I've always wondered why math was so hard but programming was so easy for me. I've thought math was just programming with poorly named variables. Apparently I did pretty bad on the numbers portion of one of those tests so I guess it's not gone.

Thanks for the author's recommendation, I appreciate it. I want to learn all I can but it's hard to know who to trust, there seems to be a lot of misinformation. Recommendations help a great deal with this problem, I'll look him up.
