I'm reading this article and it states autistic brains go through three stages, over growth, arrested growth and degenerative growth.

Does degenerative growth means it slows to normal levels or does it mean the Austic brain continuely keeps slowing down, going past neurotypical levels. Does anyone have a greater understanding of this? I feel logically if the austisic brain is degenerative that would lead to lower intelligence over time?

From the graphic provided on the website it looks like it declines to the rate that neurotypicals decline, so nothing out of the ordinary there. Also, it is referencing brain size, not necessarily cognition capabilities.

There's a theory, by Courchesne, which argues for accelerated brain growth until age 2, then it normalizes.
