General anesthesia as baby causes (my) Aspergers or PDD?
I was today at a GP for my hypertension who also happens to have a random degree for anesthesia.
I just randomly asked get a question regarding me and anesthesia, as I'm still trying to get a diagnosis for my idiocy after 15 years:
I:"I was operated as a 40 day old baby under general anesthesia because of hernia, can this cause developemental disorder?"
(I also asked her about the phenobarbital I got as a 6 month old baby for non-epileptic fits but she said nothing about that.)
she:"when was it?"
me:"33 years ago"
she:"back then they used very bad anesthetics."
me:"I was operated in Iran, in 1983 , in between of the injureds of the war"
She kind of went a bit wondered and interested: "in that case definitely yes, old anesthetics can mess with the psyche badly".
Anyone here has a similar story? Autism caused by wrong medication or anesthesia as a kid?
I've read somewhere else that Phenobarbital on it's own can cause severe developemental issues. even a single dose.
Looking forward for your feedback!

Possibly Aspie (diagnosed by an autism expert, doc moves abroad, forced to change docs and all say it's schizophrenia NOS or schizo-affective disorde or personality disorders. initial doc was a colleague of uncle Simon btw. you do the math.). (edit: by Uncle Simon I mean Simon Baron Cohen. Just to clear things up.)
my mother noted that my body was super cold as I got out of the op room as an infant. I suppose I had hypothermia.
Can hypothermia cause some crap with the brain?

I don' think there's much scientific evidence that anesthesia or common drugs like phenobartital cause autism. Being put under anesthesia is very dangerous as IstominFan said, but brain damage from lack of oxygen to the brain has quite different symptoms. Most of the evidence points to genetic causes, meaning we were born with autism.
