Would your mom ask him for more specifics about what he meant by "tone"?

You could too, of course. But some adults tend to give more specifics to other adults... almost like they think asking questions to get clarification on what they mean is being insolent or disrespectful.

my tone of voice is aspie-typical in terms of "odd prosody" and it throws some people off who don't pay sufficient attention to my WORDS.

What course material are you being taught, and are you able to show proficiency in that field of discussion.

You can have body odor. Your shoes may be on the wrong feet. But, there is no right or wrong way to say a thing, assuming that you are not learning to be a public speaker, as in some drama class, or are not being overtly disrespectful.

Although it is probably impossible for us to know, for certain, your critics might just be poserly, controlling, or officious.

You might legitimately be awkward, but that is your right, afaic.

It's hard to say. Maybe you sounded angry without realizing it, or seemed disrespectful somehow?

My brother constantly says I sound like a robot, and I insist I should have been born an android.
