Anyone else here procrastinate a hell of a lot? The main thing I procrastinate over is schoolwork. If I know I have work to hand in the next day, I deliberately do anything but the work. I'll sit down in front of the TV, even if nothing good is on. I'll play a game even if I find it boring. Anything but get on with that goddamn work.

But that's not the only thing I procrastinate over. Sometimes if I really need to phone someone I'll put it off. Normally it eventually has to wait until that person phones me instead. I don't know why, I don't particularly hate phone conversations (although they can be awkward), but I still put it off time and again.

Another one is leaving the house. Even if I'm looking forward to going out, I still put off getting myself ready, putting my shoes on, getting my bike etc. to the last minute. Which normally results in me being late for meeting up with people and pissing my friends off. Once again, I don't know why I do it, I just do.

Anyone else get this?

I procrastinate but if something needs to be done I do it. I make myself do it.

Yeah, its one of my worst traits. I will rent a video and it will sit there for weeks until I return it. My hair is usually way too long before I get it cut. I hate that about myself.

Is procrastination an aspie trait?

Heh. I just did this morning a history paper that will make or break my grade in the class, which I am currently failing (mainly because I missed about six weeks worth of work due primarily to absence and printer problems that I am making up this week and next). The interesting thing about that paper was that 40 of the total 100 points were granted purely for mechanics and following guidelines (which basically ammounts to spelling words right, having correct grammar, and making the essay between 2 and 3 pages long, which are pretty much guaranteed for me), so that by having those down, I could earn 50% of the points for the actual content and still get a C-.
It's quite a crazy system. I'll spend days carefully planning and perfecting my essay and get a D and an F, but when I put it off to the last moment (or the last hour, as in this case and for my most recent literature essay), I got an A+, and my teacher thought it was the best thing I'd written all year.

I think procrastination can be an aspie trait, and I believe it stems from anxiety. My mother is a horrible, horrible procrastinator, and I began to have some issues with it when I went off to college. The pressure of getting everything done is just too great, and so I would just put it off and put it off... and of course then, it's the day before the paper is due, and I haven't started, and I even procrastinate *that day* to where I'm starting the paper at 9 that night, and by that point the anxiety and pressure levels are so high, I just write it as quickly as I can, just to get it over with, and it ends up sucking horribly. Ugh, I am returning to school this summer and I have sworn that I will *not* do that anymore. It's just too hard, too stressful... it's a lot easier to just get things done early, and then you can relax :)

I procrastinate aaaallllll the time! I really don't like that about myself. I am not in school anymore but I used to do the same thing back then too. I agree that it might be an anxiety thing. That anxiety thing is pretty powerful thing.

I think procrastination is an "everyone" trait, although I think it's worse if you have issues with anxiety, because anything you're anxious about doing, you *really* procrastinate on. Don't know if Aspies have an especial problem with it.

I'm a terrible procrastinator. The only things I get straight on with are things I'm obsessed with

I do all of these things too, and I have no idea why either. It makes it worse if I'm punished for not doing things. You would think that having things taken away from me would encourage me to do work to get them back, but it just makes me more stressed out and less likely to do the work.

I procrastinate all the time and my priorities are somewhat skewed. Although I recognise that certain things possibly should come before others, it seems almost impossible for me to actually order things in that importance (so instead I'll do something I want to do, and it's almost a compulsion to do it, rather than pure laziness).
