Taking silliness seriously? (Autism & humor)
I love surreal humor, much like my father, but I also love dry wit, much like my mother. I've teetered on both for as long as I can remember trying to write "comedic" pieces. I've found, however, or at least some griefer on the internet has brought to my attention, that I might take goofy, surreal humor very seriously. I normally wouldn't worry about it, but not a lot of people seem to be used to the idea of treating goofy subjects with a dry sense of humor.
For some, you either have to be flippantly frivolous, or high and dry. No way you can do both unless Graham Chapman's ghost resides in your brain.
This is probably why a lot of people think autistic people are either humorless or have a "strange" sense of humor. I say people are strange for not acknowledging others' humors. What do you think?
