Just an interesting topic I thought about recently.

Basically, I can't stand the smell inside of any Barns and Nobles store... Quite often, they gives me headaches, and at one point made me vomit, too, (made it to a trash can just in time thankfully, and a woman was nice enough to give me a cup of water to drink, afterwards).

This is one of the reasons I've been finding myself using their website a lot more frequently to avoid the smell, as well as just ordering books that my local ones usually don't have in stock.

When it comes to smells that I like... That new car smell, (as cliche as that is), and I like cherry blossom scented stuff, like body wash and body spray.

What are some of the smells that you just love and hate? :P

For natural smells, I love the smell of fresh-cut grass in the spring and summer.

Real, wild honeysuckle, especially when a breeze wafts it from a large clump.

Fresh brewed coffee from freshly ground coffee beans.....mmmmmmmmmmm.

Cakes baking.

Sweet smelling roses. Sadly they've bred the smell out a lot of rose species these days.

Artificial smells I like:

I love vanilla-scented things -- candles etc. Can't get enough of vanilla.

"Powder" scent deodorant or anti-perspirant products. It's that "baby powder" smell, and it's all I ever want to use. Where I live now though, there's only one with that scent and it's not even accurate, so, I miss all those products.

Estee Lauder's "Pleasures."

Smells I hate:

Dog doo! There is nothing worse than that dog-meaty stink; it's almost worse than just human poop smell. I particularly hate it when it gets on my shoe or bike tire.

Cigarette smoke.

Coffee that I drink
Garlic
Ginger
Curry
All I consume

Baking cookies like the smell and which I don't choose eat.

Don't like mold - wet basements
- Strong smells in dried flower section of Michaels or other crafty store.

Some of my favorite scents are cinnamon, roses, chocolate, vanilla, coconut, cherries, pine trees, oranges, bacon and eggs, campfires, popcorn, pizza, and spaghetti sauce.

Some of my least favorite scents are vomit, manure, fish, most cleaning products, perfume, old cheese, sweat, paint, machine oil, onions, bad breath, and alcoholic beverages.

And skunk smell, but I think pretty well everyone hates that. And my other likes and dislikes aren't that unusual either.

Very pleasant smells: many foods (esp. Asian dishes), the air after a rain, the distant smell of wild onions
Somewhat (oddly?) pleasant smells: cedar, ozone, durian, pickled food, the 'new car smell'

Unpleasant smells: perfumes, un-burned fuel from diesel/petrol vehicles, someone who has just come inside on a warm day, rubber floor mats, most things being burnt, wet dogs. :)

I hate the smell of coffee and hate the smell of cigarette smoke above all else.

The smell of sulfur, silverwear cleaner, floor tile sealant, tar are all smells i really hate.

I love the smells of fresh air, pine trees, the ocean, fresh rain, the smell of winter in the air, nicely scented flowers, the fresh herbal smell that I smell when I go for a summer walk, cleaners, Christmas trees, food cooking and apple strudel.

I don't like the smells of urine, feces or period blood.

Sorry, but cant stand lavender WAY too heady for me and can get nausea, bitumen when laying down new roads, burning diesel, like when you have to walk behind a bus, dont like the smell of cities.... I love the smell of Jasmin's sweet perfume. Love the Ocean smell. Also the after smell of rain and lightning. Fudge being made!

Greetings. I personally am fine with smells. I like and dislike the average things. But my dad, who has some autistic traits (AD/HD though), hates the smell of sulfur, specifically from broccoli. He can't eat broccoli because of the smell. He does eat it if forced by his girlfriend though. He is fine with uncooked, but the cooked stuff is the killer.

Some of my favorite smells include chocolate, desserts of any kind baking, bacon (or any type of meat for that matter), peppermint, bonfires, anything fruity or flowery, and, strangely enough, I like the smell of cigarette smoke. As for the latter, I think it has to do with the fact that I've grown up around the smell from being around both my grandmas and one of my uncles.

As for smells I don't like, dog s**t is an obvious one, mold, and for some reason I really don't like the smell of wintergreen. Both the smell and flavor of it are just too abrasive and overpowering to me.

I LOVE the smell of lavender, vanilla, roses, and bedsheets that have been hanging outside, on the line.

I HATE the smell of microwave popcorn----it actually makes that warm water come-up in my mouth, like I'm gonna puke!! Also, the perfume "White Diamonds" makes me nauseous, hot, dizzy----like I'm gonna faint.

I know there are alot of others, of EACH, but that's all I could think-of, right now, off the top of my head.....

I hate pretty much any smell. I prefer no smell at all. Even food that tastes good, I don't necessarily like the smell of.

The ones I love the most include :
* Freshly ground coffee. There's something unique in that smell, I don't know what it is, but it is really present neither in just plain ground coffee nor in the taste of coffee (even if you brew it on the spot from said freshly ground coffee).
* Freshly baked bread
* Freshly mowed grass
* Paper and books
* Many cooking smells (baking cake, roasting meat, spices, etc. almost all of them as long as it's good, with a few exceptions see later)

The ones I don't like :
* Cheese. I'm french. I hate cheese. Regular cold cheese does not disturb me so much, but when someone melts it to make fondue or worse, raclette, at best I need to take 10 minutes to habituate myself, at worst I have to leave the place not to puke.
* Portuguese-style dried fish. I almost only encountered it in portugal, but... eeck.
* Most heavy perfumes (Cologne is usually OK)
