Is this an aspie thing? The reason why I ask is because it could be considered a sensory issue.

I am extremely ticklish! In fact, I am able to tickle myself. If someone touches their neck, it tickles me even though they aren't touching me. Also, if someone reaches out to touch me, it tickles.

I have never liked wearing helmets because the strap that goes under your chin tickles me too much. I once went on this amusement park that had really tight restraints that hurt everyone else, but tickled me. It hurts me now, but when I went on it 5 years ago, it tickled.

Is anyone else ticklish?

I've never had empathic tickling. That's very interesting that you can feel something like that.

I am extremely ticklish. It's one of the reasons I hate people touching me. I flinch and get startled when people touch me, even if it's just on the shoulder. I think the person sees this and I unintentionally send them the wrong message. That incident seems to be a recurrence in social situations.

I like when my dog touches me, but not humans. Sometimes if my dog lightly touches me unexpectedly it tickles, so I'll automatically recoil. I'm still only cuddly with my dog though, so probably there are some trust and emotional relatednes issues with humans along with the sensory thing.

Usually I'm the exact opposite. I had a friend once who tried tickling me in the ribs to get me to smile. I just looked at her.

Hmmm...maybe that's why she stopped liking me.

I'm not sure how ticklish I am in general..............but I do lightly touch/tickle my own skin (on my neck, back and arms)..............oddly I was doing that when I saw this post!

I'm not sure if this is a sensory issue...............I think the tickling ourselves might be a sensory stim................. I have these......for example I twirl a string and I feel different materials...................this might be a similar thing...............................

YES!! As far back as I can remember I have always been EXTREMELY ticklish. I thought I was the only one that could feel it when people reach out to touch me. I can also tickle myself (despite the fact that that is not supposed to work) but never do so intentionally. I HATE being tickled. It's an awful sensation. I have had the same experience with certain helmet straps and some amusement park rides. In regards to the rides, completely ruined them for me. >:c People have used tickling as a means of getting me to do what they want for two decades now. I fall down and laugh until I can't breathe. And it kind of hurts. It's an odd kind of pain. People also like to breathe on my neck. I'll scream and fall down.

I do that too. Just about every night I will wake up in the middle of the night and do that on my arms and then go back to sleep. This strikes me as strange, so I never told anyone until now. I get embarrassed if I catch myself doing it in public.

As for being ticklish, I am, and I hate being tickled. I have had people tickle me in order to get a reaction out of me. I loathe it.

YES! I am that ticklish!

I have been known to lash out at people for doing it - it's the only time I would ever consider myself 'violent'.

I'm a very ticklish person. All you have to do is play with my ear lobes or touch my knee caps.

I'm horribly ticklish. My mom kind of lost her temper at me a few days ago because I kept flinching and twisting around when she was trying to adjust my shirt.

Yeah, I scream REALLY loud when people tickle me and try to get away. Some of the areas of my body are particularly sensitive. By the way, you can't tickle yourself. It doesn't work that way... Someone else has to tickle you in order to elicit the giggles. "Tickling" yourself is really just stroking/scratching yourself.

I remember watching an episode of Scientific American on PBS about tickling. It said that some people enjoy the sensation of being tickled, and that's why it makes them laugh, while others can't stand it, though they may involuntarily laugh too. I thought it was interesting because I can't stand being tickled and didn't know that some people actually find it pleasant. I especially can't stand it if someone touches the underside of my foot, and it's unpleasant even if I touch it myself, though not as much.

Even reading this thread is tickling me!

Then how come, I get the same reaction (weaker) when tickling myself as when other people tickle me? Maybe I'm just weird that way.

I am ticklish and my girlfriend takes no end of evil pleasure in this. :(

About a month ago, I wrecked my bicycle and had a long scrape down my arm. When I got home, my girlfriend helped me clean it and I had to keep stopping her because it tickled too much. Geez...it tickles enough to make me twitch just remembering it!

So for me, at least, it's a hypersensitivity thing and I kinda wish I could turn it off.

I'm not ticklish at all. I seem to shut down and not feel anything anyone does to my skin if it's direct contact. As a child I mirrored others' reactions to tickling as a kind of automatic fitting in monkey-see-monkey-do kind of autonomic response, but when I got older, I kind of decided I wasn't going to pretend to be ticklish anymore, so I suddenly wasn't.

Some schizophrenic people can tickle themselves- their brain doesn't recognize the touch as from their own body.
And anyway, the OP said the tickling was empathic- Which I have also experienced. I don't think he was referring to physically tickling himself, which is a whole other bag of potatoes.
