I never wear socks , really . I wear sandals most of the time - never thongs/flip-flops , generally full-shoe/"
hiking " ones - Or some sort of " jams "/sneakers/whatev . Living in the it-never-snows Greater Bay Area , granted , allows this .
At least for shoes , I don't know that it's all that more " comfortable " . GIve just done it for so long now . Maybe I'm caught up in monk/beatnik /" poor-"vow of poverty "/leading a stripped down life thoughts - Or , " cool-groovy college student " :( thoughts for sneakers or boat shoes - Though I don't have any of the latter .
My feet are effectively Size 15 now , that's what the size of the American Eagles I have on now are - and they fit me ! Could the socklessness have made my feet spread out ?

...You presumably know that diabetic infections led to some of my toes being amputated , I have only 7&1/2 now . thank
:( Since I got these AEs which was since my last hospitalization frankly , it seems like wearing them has been less good for the still-major- affected of my two feet , maybe my opinion that sandals (my other shoes) on them gave them more air was right ?
When I had big toes  , the skin on the side of them/the second toe was sensitive enough that thong keepz-ons were known to make them bleed . When I was young I always word loafers (and always wore socks) , I don't anymore , but I still wear shoes a lot more low-slung than people tend to nowadays , I've known my heels , when I tried to wear more modern bigger shoes , to scratch & b!see (Maybe not full fledged bleed ?) from the back of the shoe bumping into them !
I'd had the toe infections for a long time when I finally let the big toe amputations be done  ...

I don't know if going sockless causes your feet to grow, but my feet got 1/2 size larger with each pregnancy. Pretty sure that wouldn't explain your situation, though!

Have you gained a lot of weight? i have 2 friends who recently lost significant weight and were surprised to find they had to go buy new shoes because their feet shrunk.

...In 2014 , finishing off a windfall I had about then , I bought these pretty expensive ~ $100-ish , maybe a touch on sale ? Teva ?? sandals through Amazon , they're gone now , and they were , though hiking/full-foot , through a strap through the first and second tow too ~ I could wear them , but I had the holes in my feet , I wanted to war them with " pefect " feet :( . I never did  .
I have always wanted to get some sandals from this REALLY expensive mail-ordr outfit called Paul Taylor Sandals ~
Some people , even some doctors , thought my big toes could've been saved ~ But then they backed away from that , maybe thinging I wasn't worth it ~ Maybe thinking I was a drunk/druggie ?

I have worn teva sandals before. They are comfortable.

I am sorry about your toes, but cannot comment on why the doctors pulled back. Hopefully they made their decision based on medical criteria, not any any judgement they may or may not have placed on you.

I doubt wearing socks has anything to do with your foot size.

As for whether they could have saved your toes, you're homeless, right? Maybe they figured that given your living situation, you wouldn't be able to look after your feet to save the toes?

I go sock less most of the time during the warmer months. I like letting my feet breathe in the summer because it feels more natural if I'm not wearing anything on my feet. I remember reading a few books about London and in those books it was written that many London kids barefoot around town in the summer.

...I sometimes look wistfully :( at some folks I see in the s treet with at least some kind of full-foot sandals (Some kinds of heavy thongs , too) , especially more " student/bohemian-y "-looking - Some kinds of sockless shoes , too .
They're not me . I'm a gimp now . Much of my feet are gone (and maybe they could've , what went in '14 , been saved) .

...Geez , that sort of gives me the creeps - I think , if not of Dickensenian London , pre-color photography less well-off parts of London (Not Sloane - is it called that ? - or Chelsea) and rather poor kids going around fairly grimy neigborbhoods with no particular green around , pretty grey - and dank , given London's raining level might warmer times be a bit humid ?
I sort of understood that American cities , especially NYC?? , tended to put up larger amount of park/greenery space , even smaller ones , in reaction to London and other far older than any US city cities tending to have little green in the center after cenuries of growth & change/new buildings...
CR , I was once told you were female , that was when you had the Kinks quote in your sig , two all-male bands along w/your monicker and I assumed you were a Brit , then I saw you wear Canadian...I thought then you'd immigrated Great White North-ward , either as an adult or in childhood (w/parental persons)...

...I have just the one pair of footwear , the sandals I am now wearing (I had some lesser ones , I cut the back off to use them as clogs around the place .)
I would like to at least have a 2nd set of sandals but I am low on dosh/duckies :( , remember , I have had so much stolen/taken from me by shelter staff persons/used up/otherwise gone and I have had therefore to buy basic things again and AGAIN and again  and , this , deplete funds I could have spent on other things...With my having the room as " a storage space " of sorts , if I had a sudden influx of funds , I could try to build up?" catch up " a bit , but :(

I can't get away with this for many reasons. Work, not living in the tropics, toes always aimed at unexpected obstacles, very narrow feet, needing to run sometimes, and so on.
