--in the sense of "callous/unemotional"? Can you deliberately hurt people and not feel guilt/shame? I don't mean if they hurt you or "deserved" it but because hurting people gets you something? Say stealing things from people who were nice and trusted you not to mention shops and employers. Or yanking around an ex's emotions cause they acted clingy and needy and pissed you off. Or like stereotypical animal torturing -- I was not animals best friend as a child and as an adult I killed a possum with a lighter just to see if I felt anything felt nothing whatsoever except curiosity seeing what it's like to see something die.

EDIT -- please say only if you think you're aspergers/autistic thank you :)

Sounds like jerky NT behaviour to me.

I have killed a squirrel baaby that was in my loft cause it kept making so much noise and i didnt have any emotion about it.

I often think i wouldnt have an issue killing someone emptionally it wouldnt be an issue. But i dont have a compulsion to do it. And wouldnt like the socially enforced consequences of killing.

I am going to auschwitz later this year to see if that triggers anything, as well as the curiosity factor.

I was upset at my dads dying. But apart from close relatives. I have no emotional reaction to others dying. I sometimes wonder if NT really do feel for dead refugees or its just a conditioned response.

I at times before diagnosis thought i was a sociopath. I still think i might have those tendancies. But i dont deliberately hurt people to get my own way. I just dont have any feeling of guilt or anything if i do by accident.

I personally find this thread both offensive and disturbing.

Well that all depends if the traits the OP has are Aspie traits. I am undiagnosed but from what I've gleaned from the internet they don't seem like typical Aspie traits but more like a personality disorder but what do I know.

SaveFerris -- yes I agree with you. If you read my intro post I think I'm both Aspergers syndrome and a sociopath/secondary psychopath with some primary psychopath traits

Jute, Joe90 and everyone -- *PLEASE* understand that I just want to figure myself out. I know talking about this stuff is disturbing but there's no other way I can ever know who I am without talking openly about why I think I'm sociopathic. All I want is to compare myself with a large samples of autistic people and confirm I fall within the top 97th to 99th percentile of psychopathic traits for aspies since I think autism spectrum people should have the same rates of sociopathy/psychopathy as everyone else.

Please understand I'm an aspie too here. I'm being strictly honest with you guys and not hurting anyone. I just want to get this maddening inner monologue about whether I'm actually sociopathic as well as autistic over and out of my head. And FTR I'm 99% pro-social these days just cause my life works well and there's no benefit to hurting people. I just run an internet business and spend most of my time reading special interest stuff over the internet

I think it's extremely likely most aspies aren't at all like me. So if you find my actions despicable please make it very clear cause I want more/better data

You want it plain? See a pyschiatrist, you are disturbed. Perhaps you want to talk about torturing animals but I don't want to read sick stuff like that and I don't expect to come across it on an autism forum. I'm going to have your disturbed description stuck in my head for days now, thanks for nothing.

In that case, my sincere apologies if I've offended you. I will try not to be so graphic in the future. Otherwise, may I please address one issue? My understanding is that psychopathy is either a genetic or developmental condition, so unfortunately a therapist couldn't help me. It's not treatable, but that's okay, really. I'm honestly perfectly happy the way I am.

It's a shame we're not going to relate constructively, so please let me just wish you the best. :)

Ok, sorry I took it the wrong way OP. At first I thought it was another one of those troll threads falsely explaining what lack of empathy means. But you are not a troll and you did not have bad intentions, so I apologize.

I, for one, would never kill an animal or let one suffer. I hate the thought of it, and I find it hard to read about those awful things. And same goes to humans too. I hate cruelty.
Um...and I hate killing bugs too. A few weeks ago I had to kill a spider in my room because it was late at night and it was big and looked like it was about to run 100mph across the floor any minute. And I still feel bad about it.

I wouldn't describe myself as cruel, being that I wouldn't go out of my way to inflict pain or death on another if there's no reason for it. But if being unemotional means that I don't care if someone is suffering through their own actions, then guilty as charged. Let me give an example.

Every few months, at the place where I work, we get people outside holding up signs that say "please feed my starving children" or some variation thereof. I hate these people. Since when is it our responsibility to look after them and correct their careless mistakes? They aren't saddled with whatever miswiring is in our brains, and this is a land FULL of opportunity for the hard working. It certainly isn't our fault that they made the decision to breed even through they could do chin-ups on the poverty bar, nor is their current state of employment our fault either. I'd imagine that even if they were offered an opportunity to EARN money, they'd make up some manner of excuse. They don't want to earn a living, just a hand out.

And I also have to ask... where was this mentality of not triggering others and saving them from the consequences of their own actions when WE needed it? I certainly didn't get that when I was going through public school. All I see are neurotypicals begging for the mercy they lack.

I'd also like to add that I'm a very emotional person.

I'm going to be honest. People with no conscience about what they do (such as killing animals to see if they will have any feelings) give me the creeps. What I find even stranger is that these people are happy and don't really want to change. I have spoke with these people and they know they cause pain to people but since they themselves feel nothing then they don't want to change or change hurting or using people. I find it very disturbing and now that I've been around such people, I know somewhat what signs to look for and to get away from them as soon as possible. I do believe there is no changing a psychopathic personality.
