This is an excellent idea. I think it is important that we all collaborate on presenting our identity to the public. Otherwise they only get what the mainstream media serves up, or perhaps a glimpse at some of our message boards, which can be a bit random. Of course there is a wiki project on AFF already and it seems to be coming along.

In my opinion, Aspies still are a very 'unknow' phenomena. At present, we live it up to medical professionals to come up with 'diagnostic criterias' for us. Many people have suggested, that it is time for the true experts to do the job - ourselves - and write and explain what it is all about, to be an Aspies.

And you are all invited to contribute your ideas in this place.

I can setup a WrongPlanet.net wiki for this purpose if you'd like.

Good idea. this will help get more traffic. I'm a systems operator for the wikibook project so you can rest assured that some crazy NT sysop won't be able to delete the book. If that does happen, I will be able to immediately undelete it. Also, if there is vandalism to the page, I can protect it and ban the vandalisers from editing the book.

I have only recently discovered the concept of wiki, but I find it both fascinating and empowering. I think it is an especially appropriate medium in this case. I just don't really know where to start. What are we aiming for here? Something more personal than technical maybe? I feel I should leave these decisions to you. Perhaps you could provide an index to help people get started. Provide links to some new pages on topics you would like to address. Once there is a structure the work seems to grow much quicker.

Hows does one go about contributing content to this wiki book?

Redefining Asperger's syndrome according to positive psychology would be a great start. I've seen several attempts at this. Also, redefining NeuroTypicality according to abnormal psychology would be another good thing.

I had an instance of the MediaWiki software system running on my little 450MHz Linux server at home (before it conked suddenly), and it certainly seemed interesting. It goes beyond the old chronologically-organised 'blog' and is much more 'free-form', though still susceptible to being 'structured' for organisational purposes. I may even instsall the software on my public, hosted domain name at some point.

A collaborative project by people on ASD for people on ASD (and others who are interested) seems a very good idea.

Why would a Sysop do such a thing? Surely a Sysop who deletes other people's work would quickly become a 'non-Sysop'?

Pretty cool, but in practice it might be difficult to think about what content to contribute. Maybe most people find it easier to just type something in a forum, and most people are used to it. I don't know if content can be taken from the forum and placed in the wiki, since there might be different licenses of wikibooks and wrongplanet forums.
