Is there a facial distinction for Aspergers?

I'm just wondering if there already exists a definitive test for autism spectrum such as facial distinction. Is there such symmetry? Have you too? What do you think are common with all aspies in terms of facial features? (Exclude the eye contact which is farely common answer) Share me your insights and the articles you've read. Namaste!

The wide eyes is the only characteristic that I can think of. I have it myself and I don't see anything else on my face that looks abnormal.

Asperger's does not have any abnormal facial features.

There is no "autistic look"

There's no chromosome issue in autism as there is in Down's Syndrome which produces a certain appearance.

This. You can tell if people are on the spectrum by the way they act, not the way they look.

Agreed to both posters above. If Autism had a distinct look, it would be easier to diagnose.

According to a former psychiatrist of mine, asperger's facial traits are lacking mobility around the mouth and lower area of the face.

Eye contact and wide eyes were mentioned, but I also think in general - "lifeless" looking blank eyes are pretty telling.

I have heard that there are some but that they are very subtle. I also found a article a couple of years ago talking about a study where they had examined the bronchial tubes of autistics compared to nts and found that autistics all had tri branched tubes rather than duo branched that the nts had.

I don't think there's any difference in appearance, I think it's just the expression.

I was watching a bunch of interviews with Tony Attwood and in one of them he mentioned that they had found some very subtle actual features that we all seem to have.

I think this idea has been influenced by misdiagnosis of FXS as autism in the past (and perhaps still is). They can co-exist however FXS by itself is often misdiagnosed as an AS condition because of shared symptoms like eye contact avoidance. FXS can be diagnosed by genetic testing, unlike AS.

Personally I know quite a few AS people and there is no facial similarity at all that I can see, just the natural variety of human faces and features.

There is no one real look for autism, If someone tells you "You don't look autistic", tell them "You don't look NT, either". If they tell you you do look autistic, tell them thank you since supposedly we look attractive and young for our age.

AS people look like wherever their mind is at. That will only be one place, at once. There is no walking an chewing gum, at the same time (or, you're more NT than me.)

A couple of other "autistic expressions," imhblo :

-- a firecracker has gone off in my face (intense world theory) Same smiley, with mouth open. (Is drool too out of the question? Really?)
-- quantum physics on imaginary chalkboard. (Now with eyes, scanning back and forth, and mouth sub-lingualizing.)
AS people are oftentimes so pre-occupied, internally, they are not at all focused on what is directly in front of them, so not at all responsive. Perhaps, they're in Wonderland. I am savatish, but only when I turn my brain completely off. Hopefully, I will never lose control of any bodily functions, or need to respond to physical danger, as when driving. If I go out, this way, I will at least know all the parts to a complicated machine, or all the notes in a symphony, and nothing else will matter.
