Do you hate cops?
I have found that whenever I'm dealing with a cop or, any other person trained to read other people for that matter, they always read things into me that aren't there. I guess because of my lack of eye contact, fumbling for words, or whatever. But, say, if I meet one on the street or if I get pulled over for a speeding or whatever, they usually will start questioning me trying to get me to own up to something because I guess they think I look guilty. I never know what to say because I'll have nothing to confess, but they don't seem to take "I didn't do anything" for an answer. Rather they finally give up when they don't find any incriminating evidence on me. Twice when I've been pulled over by a cop, they've searched my car because they thoght I "acted nervous." Well of course I was nervous!! ! I didn't expect to get pulled over. This is an unplanned situation, not to mention one I suck at to begin with! I'm ALWAYS nervous when that happens, no matter what the situation happens to be.
So I've gotten to where I hate cops, social workers, counselors, or anyone trained like that. They either piss me off with their arrogance or they deliberately overstimulate me (or some sick combination of the two), and if they really push my buttons hard, I shut down and sometimes it takes me days to recover.
Does anyone else despise law enforcement for reasons such as these?

Yes! I don't think I can count the times that cops or other authority figures have accused me of "looking guilty". My car, locker, even apartment have been searched because I couldn't make eye contact. I have a clean record, but it doesn't seem to matter.

I personally don't care.
Authority or not I don't give a s**t unless you give me a good reason to.
I can debate "looking guilty" well enough, its annoying though yes.
I try not to generalize people, but for the most part cops make me nervous to be around, even though I'm not guilty of anything. The few times I have been harassed by cops were because of the way I looked, and I have a really hard time pretending like I am not really really mad over stuff like that. So my pissy attitude and lack of eye contact tends to make things worse.

I personally don't feel anything towards cops but I HATE doctors with a passion. However...
My parents say that they have met stupid, assuming cops before I was born, and my dad always insulted them LOL.
Although, it's just plain stupid to treat people like that, searching their car, because of being suspicious towards them. It's illogical. They should gather enough evidence apart from the fact that the person "looks nervous" before making such judgements. In most cases where drugs or a corpse are hidden in the back of the car, the driver speeds up rather than obeying the policemen... I've read quite a few cases.
I am afraid of cops or any authority figure for that matter. Even as a little kid I used to run and hide if I saw the police coming.

I hate hate HATE cops, with their officious superior attitude, their jumping to conclusions, their lack of respect for personal boundaries, their hunger for power and domination, and their delusion that they're smarter than everyone else. Most of all, I hate cops for the way they forgo solving real crimes like break-ins and car thefts, and instead they harass ordinary citizens on their way to work for driving 10km/h over the limit.
I've had my truck stolen once and broken into twice, and nothing nothing NOTHING ever came of it. They didn't even TRY. There has been a serial killer in my city for many years now. He has killed at least twelve women. They've only ever produced one suspect, and I think they were just parading him in front of the media because people were starting to get really angry. That was a year ago and nothing ever came of that either.
The only time I ever see cops is when they're standing on the side of the goddamn road and pointing their stupid f*****g radar guns at people. They're also fond of setting up "road checks" where they're techinically supposed to be looking for drunk drivers, but they like to inspect cars and check licenses and insurance papers while they're at it. It stops up traffic, wastes people's time and makes people late for things. They're all lazy, useless, power-hungry, officious, stupid bastards.

Speaking from experience, 'Cops' dont necessarilyhassle you just to annoy you. Yes you may well be innocent, not hiding anything, but then there are those who are hiding something, who also protest their innocence. Its a dificult job to do, and a real bummer if you keep gettin stopped!

I know what you mean. The problem is that the body language training that such people have is based on NT behaviours as the majority of the population is NT. So when anyone in authority meets an aspie (particularly as such people seem to have limited if any understainding of ASDs) they judge us according to NT behaviours and of course compared to that, we are going to be considered 'different' which to the police can end up being interpreted as 'suspicious'.
I don't know what country you are in but in the UK the National Autistic Society sell a packet of business cards (www.nas.org.uk) that say something like "This person has Asperger Syndrome and may behave unusually and have difficulty understanding non-specific instructions"
Or something like that. I'm thinking of buying some because there are certain situations in which I feel that it would help.
Also, is it worth getting a letter from a medical professional about your AS and carying copies around with you? If it has your doctor / psychs contact details on it, the police can check and verify your 'story'. (Not that they should have to, but until society changes, I don't know what else to do).
Also, is it worth looking at the disability legislation in your country (if you haven't already) as there should be guidelines as to how the police treat people with disabilities, and it might be worth finding out what these are so that you can ensure you are being treated considerately.
But this is a very common problem and not just for aspies. I recently attended a fantastic event in London for the deaf community and there was a huge talk with the Metropolitan police and members of the deaf community who were basically telling the police that they were fed up of not being properly provided for by the police and that they were not understood or treated fairly.
Perhaps organising some kind of 'consultation' event like this might help?

I hate to paint with a broad brush. I know there are some cool cops out there. Back in my hometown my neighbor was a police, and he was pretty cool. Then there was one cool african-american cop in town that caught me and a friend doing something illegal (smoking pot), and he let us go. I think it was because we used to always give him free ice cream and let him use the bathroom at the restaurant we worked at.
But mostly I think that people who go into police work are drawn to it because they have an authoritarian personality. It makes them feel good to be the big tough guy with the gun. They have a lot of respect for authority and they expect the same from you. And young cops are the worst because they are so eager to prove themselves.
I had to spread rumors I cant varify, but I have read that police and criminals are very similiar when taking an MMPI.
I have been very lucky with police.I am a small female and taught to "be polite",so cops generally are very nurturing and protective with me and have let me go many times when they could have arested me(during my punk rock days). Many of my friends were not so lucky....were harassed, hit and mocked. However, they were also biligerent and drunk most of the time.
I have the most problem with authority figures, that are DRs or work managers....to many idiots to count.

He said i looked suspicious, and he asked me if i had any suicidle thoughts.
What??! !
That is INSANE. Do you live in the United States? That place is quickly becoming a police state because everyone there is so PARANOID because of the way the media sensationalizes and capitalizes on tragedies. Everyone is constantly so terrified there that they're giving up all their rights to privacy and freedom so they can feel more "secure".
Then when things like THIS happen, which are SHOCKING and COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE (that is harassment), people aren't surprised, offended or disgusted. They LAUGH, but it should not be funny.
