Does anyone feel the presence of a mental hierarchy?

My question is this:

Does anyone here get the feeling that an unwritten mental hierarchy is sometimes/was forced upon you in education, the workplace or other such circumstances? By which I mean, some sort of pyramid structure with neurotypicals on top and the rest of us down below making you seem not on the same level (and underestimating your abilities in the process).

In my case, I often felt that way during my teenage years when at secondary school and in the Scout Movement and at some points in my adult years when trying to socialise with some people at university and recently in my work at a specialist bookshop where the neurotypicals (two girls) got the higher jobs and talked amongst each other while I was on the menial job and felt practically ignored/condescended to.

That sounds like more of a social hierarchy or a NT vs. ND hierarchy to me. Maybe a hierarchy of social skills?

It's pointless to get upset about it, these things will happen. Our task is to find a special niche where we are valued, and do as well as we can with other things going on at work or school. Sometimes, masking our ASD so we can get by in NT society.

Be careful comparing self with others, it can sometimes be a depressing and pointless thing to do.

If I think they deserve it...then why not..? Maybe they have more confidence than you..maybe they can communicate to broader audience than you..personally I don't mind following a good leader...now..if I insist that I could do better than that person..then that person must really...I mean really..really suck..but then again I'm NT so I guess my opinion don't count...
