I got a dance soon and I'm completely at a loss for words. Why am I dancing? Who knows. Whether this is the right forum or not, who cares.
Point is, if anyone here can dance, I need your help how to act.
(by the way, I'm a guy)

I admit I also can't dance, but perhaps watching films with dancing and copying the dance moves might help. :)

shoes are really important, you need a sole that will slide, not grip.

for beginners, I'd keep gestures and movements small, that way you can't look too ridiculous.

a lot of dancing is facial expresssion, strangely enough, if you get the right facial expression going, you can dance.

Take some lessons in Salsa and/or Swing. These dances have relatively simple moves that you can easily use in social dancing. They'll also teach you some important concepts of dancing with a partner.

I only went to one school dance on 10th grade but most of the guys only danced "slow dance...ie...legal grope sessions" and spent the rest of the time laughing with their friend/friends and watchig the girls dance...this is evidently perfectly exceptable behavior(and honestly, the few who tried dancing were pretty lame, and I am sure they were NT).The main rule of dancing is...."try not to swing your arms to much and poke out the eye of the girls you are near.

I am female,so I would always dance alone with my shoes off and my eyes closed....I didnt care if I looked like a freak,it was one of my favorite things to do....stimming to music.

There is also a similar thread in Love and Dating, titled "How do you dance?" You might find it interesting.
