Depends on your definition of damage.

Most mental conditions can be caused by physical trauma to the brain but they can also be inherited structural anomalies.

schizophrenia and bipolar disorder are because of brain damage? hm, anyways the frontal lobe is where this doctor was pointing to, wich was damaged. thus the person had ocd.

Some cases of ADHD have been linked to head injuries. Also during the The Influenza Pandemic of 1918 alot of survivors had ADHD like effects afterwards. I know nothing about OCD to comment on it though.

well something has to be "wrong" in the brain for any such disorder.

Some cases of NLD have been linked to brain trauma as well.

interesting. maybe if someone was born premature, or hit themselves in the head. (autism)

The emphasis was on "can be caused" some are more commonly inherited others are almost exclusively caused by injury.

Thats just correlation though. You've said the guy has OCD and brain damage that doesn't necessarily mean one caused the other.

i was talking about brain injurys. there is no "can be caused" and i said this doctor said brain damage caused OCD.

I'm certainly no expert but I thought I'd heard before that OCD was caused by chemical imbalance in the brain. I've thought it might be hereditry too since my mom and I both exhibit symptoms of it. (though I haven't been diagnosed with it)

I've had 4 head injuries including one around 9 months of age and was injured at birth by the doctor brutally attacking me with forceps. So maybe head trauma can cause some of these things.

It would fit my obsessive interests to wonder how the brains' functions can be modified in a certain way etc.

Here are some sources of information that pertains to brain damage and changes in behaviors etc:

Lobotomy effect:

SEE: orbitofrontal syndrome

http://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/m ... m96r.alice

I also once found an article online somewhere that showed that the hemispheres of the orbitofrontal cortex display opposite functions: the left hemisphere is said to be the inhibitor.

http://luria.ucsd.edu/Kaczmarek-_Extension%20of%20L :

"Left orbitofrontal lesions are commonly followed by a strong tendency to digress from the main topic, which frequently leads to confabulation. Verbal fluency is high, and the grammatical structure more complex, but the subjects exhibit difficulty in controlling a proper course of their verbal output."

I thought that I once learned that lesions of the left hemisphere in the orbitofrontal cortex are akin to hypomania and poor impulse control. At least if I can remember that without all the details involved with how scientific it is to just give a simple answer to things like that.

Now for the biggie- how does one get treatment for possible brain damage? I once read about something called like post traumatic concussion disorder (or some such similar name) and it sounded like what I have had going on. I had a nasty concussion about 15 yrs ago and have had terrible memory loss and have bad short term memory now whereas I was very sharp beforehand. Now I can forget what I did 5 minutes prior. I attempted to discuss this with a neurologist who poo pooed the whole idea and said nothing was wrong with me. Yeah I can't remember what I did 5 minutes ago on a bad day and I've had headaches before that lasted 5 days and have lesions on my brain according to MRI ...but somehow this is suppose to be completely normal. Then why doesn't everyone else have the same if its freakin NORMAL??!

Yeah after 4 head injuries included one nasty concussion and a infant injuries where I bleed from mouth and nose plus getting struck by lightning and doctors don't understand my concern that I have "changed" since having these things happen to me.
