Does anyone have a difficulty time hearing

phone numbers.

Today a message was left on my answering machine from the OHSU clinic about my upcoming appointment.

I dial the phone number as I am listening to it but I got a answering machine instead so I left a message. they never called back so I called back again and this time the lady answered the phone but she was clueless what I was talking about. I asked her isn't this the OHSU and she said no. I said I was sorry and hung up. I had my boyfriend play the message again and he said the phone number. I dialed it and this time a guy answered the phone, he also was clueless when I asked if this was the OHSU clinic. He said "What?" and I said. "Sorry I guess I got the wrong number," and hung up.

Then I ordered my boyfriend to bring me my purse so I can look at the card and dial the number. He wouldn't but instead wanted to listen to the message again and try calling them but I kept ordering him to bring me my purse and I got angrier when he wouldn't and then he finally did.
He brings me my purse and I take out the card and look at the number and then I look at the numbers I dialed on my cell phone and see they were both wrong. I just hear phone numbers wrong on the answering machine so I end up dialing the numbers I hear. They said 418 and I thought they said 518. My boyfriend hears it and tells me the same and he got the last part wrong so I ended up calling someones else's house.

Does anyone else have difficulty hearing phone numbers?

Whenever someone gives it to me, I always have to repeat the number back to them to make sure I have it right. But if I was told that to my face, I can hear it fine but over the phone or on the answering machine, I can't. That's why I do not like leaving messages because I am afraid they won't understand what I am saying or not hear my phone number correctly. Another reason is I don't know what to say so I have to think ahead of time what I am going to say.

I figure it's part and parcel with my Auditory Processing Disorder. I noticed it when I worked at a call center. When someone called in, we would ask their phone number and look that up on the computer. It usually took me three tries to get it right. I'd watch the other people on my team, and they got it right the first time, almost every time. Very frustrating. I have to play messages over and over to get the number, and sometimes I can't get their number at all.

I have auditory processeng disorder and trouble with numbers in general- even if you said the number loudly and clearly enough for me to hear, I'd still get it backwards!

A lot of people talk too quickly and mumble when leaving phone numbers on answering machines. I always make sure to speak clearly and slowly when leaving my phone number, and then I usually repeat it.

People do mumble phone numbers a lot in messages, but I also have some issues with auditory processing. So yeah, I can relate.

I have this issue too! Also, I tend to transpose numbers a lot when I write them down. It extends into listening to voice messages as well. It's hard for me to get the info right.

I have to hear the phone number two or three times before it registers.

I'm at signing in at the doctors office. The receptionist asks me "Is your phone number still 571-blahblahblah-blahblahblahblah" So incredibly frustrating!
