Does anyone have a fear of things that are harmless? I fear many things that are not dangerous and do not effect sensory issues, eg. moths, remote controls, microwaves, the number 3.... Is this more likely in people on the spectrum?

When I was a kid, I was terrified of the skins that cicadas would shed, which would then lie around outside. Maybe I would still be scared of them, although when I was 12, my family moved to a place that didn't have cicadas.

I was afraid of dead bodies as a child, but over the years I managed to extinguish that fear. I've taken a year of gross anatomy lab, so I guess it's safe to say I'm OK with dead bodies now... though not with death itself.

Cicada skins are gross.

I'm scared of mirrors sometimes; mostly when they're in dark rooms.

Mirrors (or any sort of reflective surface, really) terrified me for YEARS... It finally went away in my late teenage years, but I still have no idea how/why. I was afraid of the dark (even shadows made me nervous) and insects/bugs as well, other than the common house fly and fruit flies. Also, spaghetti and french fries for some reason terrified me when I was a kid (eating them, anyway, not just looking at them). Now I'm not really afraid of anything though.

I had a fear of surgical tools for the longest time along with needles, because I was afraid of blood. I also had a fear of toy guns, at one point as a child.

As a child I had a very strong fear of anything under the water at the beach. This was a bit odd because at the time I wanted to be a marine biologist.

Water is often used as a metaphor for life. I guess I would agree, but not as a good, nourishing life, but as a consuming, devouring life. My fear of the water was based mostly on the idea that something; bacteria, crabs, sea urchins, flounders etc would eat me. Even now, if I go to the beach, I don't want to touch the water.

Wow, I'm scared of a lot of things. I was just going to post the one I thought of off the top of my head, and then I started reading all the other posts, and I was like yep, that's me, that one too. The original one I was going to say was fake sharks. Doesn't matter how big, 6 inches or 60 feet, they terrify me. Real sharks don't scare me, not that much anyway. I wouldn't be excited to be in the water with one, but on the other side of aquarium glass is just fine with me. But yeah I'm really really really scared of things in the water with me in a pool or lake or even bathtub. One of my friends had a little toy shark that would swim in the pool. I'm getting all tense just thinking about it, but yeah I pretty much flipped out and screamed and cried and flew out of the pool. She thought it was hilarious... 8O :x

Mine would have to be tree roots mainly, and most other roots too. I always fear they are going to grab me and kill me, don't know why.... I used to be afraid of infinite things, having strange dreams that always ended in me feeling quite ill, and my lampshade in the dark after any TV alien showing up (as in, on the screen, not in person). Oh, and I still have a bit of a fear of pool drains..... I think there going to suck me under....

Being at the foot of a steep flight of stairs, looking up. Especially if it's a bit gloomy. (bleargh, I'm coming out in goose bumps at the thought of it) Something absolutely horrible is going to happen unless I get up them or away from them ASAP.
Looking down stairs, no worries. Using stairs generally; no problem.

And moths. Big, fat lumbering moths that always seem to make straight for my face.

I have the strangest fear of bathtubs/baths. I suppose it could be sensory, and it seems illogical to others.

I am not sure if this counts, but I am afraid of many animals, like pets and farm animals.

However, when I was little, I was terrified of my lamp. It broke one time and cast some weird shadows. I got so scared that I would never turn it on and once my dad turned it on and I got really scared so my parents moved it to the guest room closet. I used to be afraid of it hopping down the hall into my room. I once told some guests to stay out of the closest in the guest room because of the lamp. I was very worried that they would sleep in the closest, but they didn't.

Some days I have issues with most things but it is not exactly a fear, almost like the item is pressing on my eye. Once I started taking Effexor and Adderall though it is not as much of an issue. I have noticed if I only take Adderall the problem is still there or if I only take Effexor the problem is still there but when taken together I feel better. I have also always been deathly afraid of bees wasps all those things but with the meds I don't mind them. Granted there should be some fear but the second I hear their buzzing I immediately take off running full speed, had a pet scorpion for a while I would touch his tail so he would spin around to get me. I liked touching his tail (back side cannot sting backwards at least this variety), never had the same reaction even though his sting is supposed to be about as bad as a hornet.

So I wonder what is it about those 2 meds that remove most of that fear or whatever it is.

Btw the scorpion was before any meds.

I also hate the beach, especially the water! The beach in general is bad (bright sunlight, the texture of sand, and how it gets stuck to you), but the water is just scary because all sorts of things live there, and you can't see them very well because they are underwater, and it would be hard to get away from them, and they can sting/bite. I really hate the beach, especially the water.

Well, you're not going to like me. I'm obsessed with the number 3. Why do you fear 3? It's Awesome.
