I keep dissapearing and i dont know where i go.
My mind - for clarities sake, not my body :)
Does that sound familiar.
Do you have a strong constant sence of self?
I want to get diagnosed, but where i live they only do it up to age 10 on the NHS so i have to win the lottery or somthing equally helpful.
Good to be here, looking forward to your replies.
Allie.

What's the NHS? Can you qualify for a lower fee or something because of income?

National Health Service, created after WWII. It provides most of the healthcare in the UK, unless you go private, which is only possible really if you can afford it.
I was born in the first NHS hospital in England.

Thanks for the clarification, Sopho.

Geez, age TEN?!

Can you go in for "depression" or something similar, and then ask the doctor about Asperger's then?

I didn't know it was that young. I thought I'd just missed it because I was diagnosed at 18. Always assumed it was just if you were over 18 you had to pay.
10 seems ridiculously low...

ADHD is not officially recognised in adults. The drugs are only licensed fro children. It is mad.

LOL I can't believe I didn't even know this.
I always noticed most information on Autism/ADHD focuses on kids, but I just thouhgt that was a coincidence. Never knew that carried through to professionals as well...

When i approached my GP about being assessed she looked utterly baffled and said 'But autism is something associated with children, surely?' 8O That was last November.

:? Sorry, I'm a bit confused here, what doesn't the NHS do?

When I was sent to therpists / phsycologistse / phsychiatrists, whatever they were (but I'm assuming therapists because they wanted to talk about the bomb explosion). Anyway, they stated to my mum they felt I "Had a touch of autism" and prescribed me with prozac for my depression.

I quit going to the sessions shortly after being given the prozac and withing 2-3 months stopped taking the prozac.

I hate using the phrase but....it's a postcode lottery
badger and pester your GP to fund you to see a specialist who will take referals from around the country. don't take no for an answer, be prepared to argue your case, with reasons why a diagnosis will aid you.

Yeah, I live in Manchester, but I went to Sheffield for a diagnosis.
