it's my belief that autism tends to come with certain physical differences too, which i'll list below:

-slumped shoulders (being hunchback)
-neoteny (appear relatively young for age)
-joint hypermobility (e.g. fingers bend back far/banana thumbs)
-larger skull/brain (head looks unusually large relative to the body)
-upward curving erection??

those are what i can think of from the top of my head at least, do you share any of these traits with me and from what i've seen quite a few other autists? do you know of any that i missed out?

I haven't had many people tell me I look younger than what I actually am, but it is a comment I've heard. So you might be onto something here. Then again, I'm only an individual case.

i certainly have, i'm your age and could pass for 16 probably.
i've also heard and seen quite a few other cases of autists being neotenous.
i think we develop slower both mentally and physically.. so maybe we could be said to have extended childhoods.

I don't have slumped shoulders, or hyperflexibility in my limbs.

I looked somewhat young for my age, until recently.

My erection is pretty "normal."

I have a pretty big head.

Most autistic people truly look like "average" people, from my experience.

If they look "different," they probably have some other genetic difference.

I fit pretty much all of those, minus the large head and erection (given that I'm, well, female). My family always freaks out at how far back I can bend my fingers, and I can bend my thumbs so that the top joint is at a 90 degree angle to the bottom joint without bending them manually with my other hand. I can also bend my wrist so that my thumb touches the inside of my arm, which I've heard is unusual.

Despite being 24, when people meet me, they invariably guess that I'm around 12-14. When I was 21, I went to the store to buy pepper spray and the cashier said, "You have to be at least 16 to buy this, do you have a parent with you?" as if I looked so young there was no way she could possibly be mistaken that I was a child.

I have a lifelong hunched, loping gait as well. My dad tried to correct it by sending me to rolphing sessions (which are a combination of physical therapy and really deep pressure massage) but as soon as the course of treatment was over (there were ten sessions in all) I almost immediately went straight back to my hunchbacked position.

The only one I have is the upward curving erection. I tend to look older for my age. I hit puberty early & I started losing my hair in my mid 20s. I'm also starting to have alittle white/grey hairs.

I think I have all of these, except the last one, because I'm a girl.

I have a pretty big head, disproportionately long arms and a bit of bilateral asymmetry, meaning the left side of body doesn't quite match the right.

I don't know if these characteristics are coupled with my Asperger's, but I also have poor gross and fine motor control, which I understand is common among people with autism.

Have pretty much always looked younger than my age,
sometimes way younger ! !! !! !! :)
That's caught up with me a bit in middle age.

I think the slumped shoulders comes from poor posture or body language or being tense or lack of confidence or some combination? I'm certainly not a hunchback, but I am what they call "high strung", and interested in the world, so maybe I do slouch forward from time to time. (Eagerness?) Not always though.

I think my thumbs are normal, but I never really compared them to anyone else's.

I think my head is well proportioned.

I'm female, so I'll pass on the last one ...

People think I look younger a lot of the time but I am the opposite of having joint hyper-mobility and general physical flexibility. I don't really know that my head would be considered large in proportion to my body. And I have certainly struggled with have poor posture, though I think that has been more anxiety and lack of confidence than an actual physical difference.

Yes to large skull/head, and yes to loose finger joints.

Neotony maybe (have been told that I look young for my age).

No to the rest. Am not a hunchbacked porn star.

-slumped shoulders (being hunchback)- I'm a mesomorph so no.
-neoteny (appear relatively young for age) - Only in that I'm a bit short for my age.
-joint hypermobility (e.g. fingers bend back far/banana thumbs) - No.
-larger skull/brain (head looks unusually large relative to the body) - Kind of.
-upward curving erection?? - No.

My head is disportionate to my body; I do look slightly younger than my age would suggest (perhaps that could be attributed to a relatively healthy lifestyle) and my shoulders are rather slumped. I can't say I fit the other criteria, though.

Can poor circulation be directly associated with autism? My feet and hands always seem to be chilly.
