What character/s do you identify with from an ASD point of view? Characters you either think you are like, would want to be like, or even those you use as masks for passing. Why is this so?

As clarification, the characters don't need to show ASD-ish traits. You just need to identify with them for any reason. I personally seem my identification with characters as being closely related to my social difficulties/Aspie behaviours etc.

I identify with Sgt. Schultz from Hogan's Heroes and Sid from Flushed Away.

I don't particularly consider them autistic, but I do identify with quirky characters such as Waluigi or Robbie Rotten.

I read The Lemonade War series and I felt I identified with Jessie. I felt like I was reading about myself minus the academically smarts and skipping a grade and being good at math and not freaking out when a tree landed in her room during a hurricane storm.

I identify with Regina Mills, from Once Upon A Time. Also, as far as characters I often use for masks, Cat Valentine, from Victorious, is my go to. I feel most comfortable trying to be that delicate, giggling girl type. Only my family and close friends see me not like that.

When I was younger, I wanted to be like the book character Judy Moody. I didn't identify wity her, though. In one book where she was predicting the future and doing clairvoyant stuff, she guessed correctly that her teacher was going to get married.

After I finished that book, in an attempt to copy Judy Moody, I asked my own teacher if she was going to get married. The answer was no, and my teacher was not happy with me.

Me too! :D

Also, I identify with Spencer Reid from 'Criminal Minds'. I'm not saying I have an eidetic memory, or can read 20000 wpm (technically impossible), or his genius or anything. Just his personality, traits, and interests resonate with me (he has non-canonically-confirmed ASD traits). I've never run across another character with whom I identify more (fantastic abilities aside). I would just love to have people care about me and accept me as the team does for him.

As for characters I would want to be like, top of the list right now is Chirrut Imwe, from 'Rogue One'. He's so calm, focussed, and extremely capable despite his complete blindness (well portrayed physical disability, too :D). I wish I was as peaceful and awesome as him!

For masking, I use a whole range of characters and people I actually know, often at the same time. Not something I can really list here, seeing as most are my friends or acquaintances. I take just a little bit from each character, so some of these might sound a bit strange: Patrick ('The Perks of Being a Wallflower'), Castiel ('Supernatural'), Sarah Jane Smith ('Doctor Who'), Pavel Andreievich Chekov (as played by Anton Yelchin, new 'Star Trek' films), Loki (MARVEL's 'Avengers' Universe - incl. 'Thor'), and many others. Most of them are male, but I don't think I act in an overly masculine manner; I just take their confidence/social skills/eagerness to interact with others etc. It probably sounds like a really strange list, but there you have it! :D

In clarification: Most characters I identify with are Aspie-ish, because that makes them seem like me. Most characters I want to be like are NT and with good interpersonal skills, because that is something I don't have, but think would be really useful. Most characters I use for masking are confident, but slightly socially awkward (but still near enough to normal to be acceptable) or otherwise societal outcasts. I don't think I can sustain a mask of a very outgoing and 'normal' character for a long period without experiencing a shutdown.

I identify with Peter Capaldi's Doctor from Doctor Who; Adrian Monk from Monk; and Dexter Morgan from Dexter. Although they aren't explicitly aspies, they each have some aspergian traits that I relate to.

My favorite character is Clara from Doctor Who. I also really like Rachel from Glee and also Amy and River from Doctor Who. For me, I think the characters I love with are most often characters I want to be like. Most of the characters I get attached to are the ones who are confident and smart and the ones I wish could be my sister or best friend. I do identify with Clara too for her love of English and Rachel for her love of singing.

Before diagnosis I always identified strongest with the stereotypical intelligent, villainous sociopath with an English accent.

Lots has changed since, including how I judge myself. Maybe K2SO from Rogue One? Kind of imposing and direct in manner, with a dark history in a dark environment doing what he thought he was built for, but ultimately reprogrammed to do good by a band of rebels =]

The character I absolutely identify with is Sheldon Cooper (Big Bang Theory). Its not his extreme qualities but its because in most of the episodes I would react almost the same way to the situations he encounters.

Can I ask who the rebels are? :D

I saw a bit of 'The Big Bang Theory', and I actually found Sheldon fairly upsetting, and even offensive. Perhaps it was because I recognised some of my own traits in him (over-exaggerated), but I found it uncomfortable in the extreme to see him making totally relatable mistakes, then having it turned into a comedy, where people are laughing at him.
