I often wish that I could live in a controlled and regimented environment, like a jail or hospital ward. It makes me content to have a clear set of rules, and a strict schedule to follow, so I frequently wish I could live in a place like that. I am quite anxious about becoming an adult, and having to be responsible for myself; I also need to move out of home to escape from my family and their damaging treatment of me.

Does anybody else wish they could live in an environment such as this?

The beauty of living on your own is the ability to set your own routines at home...so, you can make things as regimented as you want (for example: fish & chips for supper every Tuesday).

I can understand that, but part of it is me being worried about my ability to take care of myself. I feel very immature in some ways.

Try asking for some help/training from your Mom (or some other helpful relative) for help on learning the basics like:

- shopping for groceries
- cooking
- cleaning
- paying bills / managing a household budget

If you can get by managing the above items (and have some sort of income to pay the bills) then you're in good shape to live on your own. Everyone (ASD & NT) has to learn these things from scratch and is a bit nervous about moving out and living on their own.

I always thaught I would do better in a regentwd environment but jail is harsh because there are dangerous people who could probably be far worse than your family.

I know what you mean though.

I used to enjoy living in hostels when I was younger, where I was kind of semi indipentant but still had to live by rules and regulations.

I already know how to do those things (except for the last point), because I do them regularly at home. I just feel like a child in some ways, and don't know if I would be able to cope with adult life.

^^^ Sometimes the fear is worse than the reality. When I first moved out I was scared sh*tless but managed to pull it off. Keeping in touch with friends and family helped a lot.

I don't know if I could stand the food in a jail or mental hospital.

In the old days in my county, the sheriff's wife would fix the meals for the prisoners. These days, it's all frozen dinners -- the cheapest they can buy.

The food is really supposed to be nasty in jail.

I didn't really mean that I want to be put in jail, more that the structure in jail appeals to me. I'm sorry if it wasn't clear that I do not mean to live in a jail. :D

I know that. I know what you mean.

You want to have order in your life.
