This is about my dad, not me. I hate loud sounds.

My dad has questioned a few times if he could be on the spectrum. But whether he is or isn't is not up to me to decide. He also plays music very loudly.

I've always heard about Aspies being sensitive to loud noises. Is there anyone who doesn't mind them and/or actually LIKE them?

I hate them! But I do know that the sensory sensitivity can go Both ways. I had a student a few years ago on the spectrum and she LOVED loud noises. She would get as close as she could to the speakers in gym class when the teacher was playing loud music. She loved it!

I tend to like loud music. I don't like startling or high pitched noises, but music is different for some reason.

For me it can depend a lot upon the kind of noise or sound. I have worked in noisy factories where it is almost impossible to have a normal-level conversation of any kind, but sometimes I can barely keep from running a red light to get away from a loud vehicle or booming audio anywhere near me. I tend to keep the TV on for some low-level background noise as a distraction from my tinnitus, but then there are times when I play a favorite song or two at high volume if there is nobody near enough to be bothered by my doing so.

I can't stand sudden, unexpected loud noises that I have no control over but I'm fine if I'm the one making the noise. A good example would be a balloon. I really hate balloons because they have a habit of suddenly and unexpectedly popping. So if I see someone with a balloon I'll get away from them, knowing that at some point it'll probably pop. If I have the balloon, I'll pop it as soon as possible to avoid it popping unexpectedly. That way I have control over the situation. Even standing still holding a balloon for a few seconds freaks me out.

I hate loud noises, but love loud music. Only if it's music I picked out that I'm in control of. Other loud noises I like too. I like the sound of trains passing by and the sound of the ocean with seagulls. It's mostly random sporadic noises I can't stand, like people talking/yelling and things crashing. I also hate anything high pitched.

I like loud music in my headphones. But not like loud music blaring in like an auditorium or theater. I also like train horns and the loud boom of train cars coupling. It makes me cringe, but I still like it for some reason. I like the sound of loud car and motorcycle engines if I am prepared for it like at a car show. Although with all those I am wearing noise reducing headphones.

Wow! 8O Two more people who like train sounds. I can't stand noise, but for some reason I enjoy standing as close as possible to a passing train. Something about how everything else just dissolves and all that exist is that sound. It's exhilarating. I otherwise can not tolerate noise from traffic, guns, fireworks, balloons, crowds, music, ect...and either wear earplugs or avoid it unless it seems worth the 2 day to three week recovery time. Natural sounds, other than very close lightening strikes, don't generally bother me though. I'm even mostly ok with the sound of Cicadas.

When I was really young, I was a sensory seeker.
I craved all external sensations at the same time, enough to overwhelm anyone.
The loudest, brightest, coldest, and gunpowder scented new years were my favorites. Happy times.

Until anxiety happened. I never got to retain sensory-seeking status since, but I did retain most of the tolerance and threshold.

I like loud noises and yes, especially loud music.

It calms me.

If I'm struggling, loud music calms me down. I can't drive without it.

I can also manage silence perfectly well, and I work best in silence because I'm not distracted, but for emotional comfort I need loud sound.

Hmm i like loud music at concerts and I really like the sound of fireworks and airplanes.

I don't like the sound of people banging their cutlery on plates or jars, that's annoying.

Im one of those weirdos that doesn't mind silence

No, I am not a fan of loud noises. There are situations and places where I tolerate it(like going to a basketball game) as it is excepted but it's not an aspect I like.

Not a fan of things that hurt my ears and rattle my brain.
