Co-dependency and autism

I'm in love with a person who said he has been diagnosed with co-dependency issues and may or may not be on the autism spectrum. How do I deal with him and encourage him without feeding into his issues?

I was in a support group for co-dependency before I learned about AS. Now, I can't even remember the definition.
