Not really; not unless you live a physically active life-style. Many people eat when unnecessary;
I speak not from study but from personal-experience with my life of absurd-levels of appetite.
A few people even thought I had worms in my gut since they couldn't figure out how I fit all that food into my body, but I eat when I'm hungry, usually, not just because the clock says that it's breakfast/lunch/dinner/etc.
For best-absorption of nutrients it's best to eat in very small and infrequent amounts throughout the day;
for maximum-results, exercise between bites that you eat, such as 2-3 spoon-fulls every 15 minutes.
That seemed to be optimum for me to exercise for 15 minutes, consume a spoonful or two of food,
then go back to exercising, usually I did this with rice and tuna for the necessary carb/protein-combo.
