Can a special interest be a person? More specifically someone famous, etc. ?

Thoughts and feelings?

I don't see why not, although, I think it is more likely that one would be interested in what the person in question actually does, as well as the person himself. For example, my friend is obsessed with Quentin Tarantino, but this is the case because he likes his movies, I hope that makes sense?

Would not know for sure, but I don't see why not? But, I can also see a fine line where a person crosses into stalker land.

But if you just gotta know everything about the people in a band or any performer, yeah, I can get that since there are a few people I'm very into their successes.
I'm pretty much a knucklehead about 'The Monkees', specifically Michael Nesmith and Mickey Dolenz. Dolenz just because he had that voice and wrote some really weird stuff. Nesmith because he is probably the father of country rock and a real visionary, wrote hits for other musicians, involved with Ken Burns' "Civil War", invented the foundation for MTV (back when it was about music and music videos), produced the first successful Music video album (Elephant Parts), produced movies and TV shows.....

So, yeah...I could see it.....

Yes, I agree with this. I feel like it sort of comes hand in hand.
Thank you for your input! I appreciate it greatly!

Don't see why not. My current special interests are Tuukka Rask and Colin Miller mainly in the form of hockey cards and then in their stats, though the stats kind of expands to all the Bruins.

My daughter was/is my special interest. I was horrifically abused and I read something when I turned 6 years old that gave me hope. It was then that my far in the future daughter became my special interest. She was going to be the most loved and accepted child in the world. And she would be so happy. Years later she was born. she was my everything and I swore I would never cause one tear to drop from her beautiful eyes. I loved/love her so much and we learned and did everything together and I loved being a parent even mor than I imagined. I assumed my daughter liked me as well. She was very sweet and acted as though she did but she actually detested me for being so weird [she is the epitome of neurotypical]

It was not until 12 years ago, when she and her husband split up that she had my FOO tell me the truth. And I would not acccept it until we had an armed robbery at our home last year where we almost lost our lives [this incident never would have happened if I had accepted my daughters hatred of me and moved on. You see, I started bringing really screwed up people into our home, to replace her. not to take her place, but to take her space]

If someone you love is your special interest, when they tell you, or have someone else tell you, that you are hated, believe them.

My avatar usually has "Ian Mackaye" on it, so I think it could be a special interest.
It also has to do with because I like Hardcore Punk, which he was involved in.

I would say I have an obsession with a person. I try not to be stalker-ish or creep them out. Though I can't promise it won't be once or twice, in a harmless sort of way. I realize how creepy this sounds. If I could stop it...well, I wouldn't I guess.

Yes, because any special interests I've ever had has always been certain people. If you want to ask any questions or chat about how you feel on obsessions with people then feel free to talk to me about it, as I know how getting obsessed with people really feels like.

Getting obsessions with people is not a good thing. It's usually other females I get obsessed with (NOT in a sexual way, I am straight), just admiration and competing sort of thing. I so badly want to be best friends with them and get involved in their lives so badly that it makes me come across as some sort of a stalker.
And no, it's not celebrities I get obsessed with, it's local people. Right now I'm obsessed with a woman with Bipolar. I've never met a person with Bipolar before and it fascinates me so I really want to get to know her more but it's clear she doesn't want to be friends. Never mind.

Yes it can. I think if it's with a famous person or a deceased person, that is fine just as long as you are not stalking them or their family members.

But I don't think having a special interest with a person in real life is healthy. I wouldn't want to be someone's special interest. it feels creepy and also if I was my husband's special interest, his behavior and treatment towards me would change if his special interest changed and I wouldn't want that so that is why.

I was pretty obsessed with the Broadway actress/singer Sarah Brightman as a kid/young adult. And then in high school until I was about 23 I would sometimes get obsessed with people in real life, I could never figure out why and it was probably a little creepy in its intensity. I think it was some sort of developmental stage that I might have hit a little later than most, because once I hit my mid-twenties and started becoming more secure with my identity the real life people obsessions stopped.

Joe90, I was obsessed with a real life person with bipolar once, but it was because I also have it and had not met another person outside of the hospital where I was diagnosed who had it before, and I wanted very badly to talk to someone who understood. I was doing a transition to university program for people with disabilities and she was one of the upper year leaders, so I was only in contact with her for a few days. Never saw her again after that.
