I like walking a lot. In fact, I very much believe it is the most superior form of exercise, other than swimming. As a runner I can testify muscle problems and frequent minor sprains are much rarer with walking, but still gives the heart what it needs. I occasionally take long walks of about 4.5 miles (thank you, google maps!) with my mum in the evenings. I live in a coastal town and our walk takes me past some of my favourite places, the more indie side of town and of course, the sea. She has high blood pressure and cholesterol and initially started walking to improve her own fitness, but my dad would worry because like me, she sort of disregards safety in favour of a a nice, cool night walk, so I ended up accompanying her as a somewhat ineffective bodyguard.
