i've always been a night owl and staying up really late, but then that gives me a reason to sleep in until the afternoon.

it usually happens when i know i don't have anything going on and i don't have a reason to get up in the morning, but because i'm a night owl, it's tough to go to bed early and get up early when i know i have to so after i'm done doing what i have to do, i take a nap.

why is sleeping in frowned upon with people?

I'll start by saying I'm pretty similar. I sleep a lot and will stay in bed all day sometimes. I hate having to get up early though I'm sure I'd be happier if I did.

I think it's seen as laziness by some people which is something that's very much frowned upon.

Also, sleeping late isn't linked with good mental or physical health so even though I do it, I wouldn't advise it.

I miss sleeping in. Now I just wake up early and tired every day. :P

I have a very bad problem with my anxiety keeping me up at night and then sleeping into the afternoon. I've pulled one all nighter and two near misses in the past two weeks. I want it to stop.

Something to do with sun and circadian rhythms and health.

Some people sleep late because of excess drinking. Others might try it as a ploy to avoid work. For children, it is a sign of illness, so parental circuits are alarmed. Just having to remember your schedule is more thinking than many people care to do. People may worry about what you are up to as they sleep. Early rising is preferred by simple-minded, energetic people, who don't naturally trust the intellectual, creative people who prefer the quiet hours for their work.
I think that a small percentage of people are just naturally nocturnal. A tribe with a few members who could stay alert on watch all night would be safer and more productive overall than one with none or many.
