Well first, Hi. I'm Oliver. I have a blog on tumblr under the username CuriouslyAutistic, it is an autism information blog so I have an excuse to avidly research autism every day and I can infodump to people without anyone getting upset with me for talking about the same subject for five hours, lol. Anyways, I have a couple of anons in my inbox at the moment and they're asking some questions I don't have the answers to (and I couldn't find any answers around the internet for them), so I thought I'd post them here. so here goes.

1. How does alcohol and/or drugs affect you? do you find that you are less or more sensitive to them than most people?
2. Do you find that you need more sleep than average? or do you sleep less than what most people consider "normal"?

thank you so much for your time!

1. I don't drink. But I'm relatively hyposensitive to many drugs, and sensitive to a few.
2. I need more sleep, but I don't like it. So I tend to sleep less by choice even if my body badly needs it.

1) Sensitive to caffeine and nicotine. Took what I think was either speed or ecstasy once and didn't enjoy the effects. I enjoy smoking weed when the opportunity arises. I don't drink much these days but have in the past and wouldn't say it effects me any differently from most.

2) My lifestyle means I sleep more than average but can't say if I definitely 'need' it as haven't been consistent in trying the alternative.

I'd say you'd find variations just like with any population tbh.

I sleep a normal amount.

I have unusual reactions to drugs. Often more sensitive. When I drink, I just get more quiet. I tend to stare at walls and retract socially. I also get headaches quickly. Not really fun so I don't do it.

My reaction to pot is fairly normal. It chills me or makes me silly, depending on the type.

I am no more sensitive to alcohol than others. It makes me laugh. I've tried other drugs, my reactions seem typical.

I need more sleep than 8 hrs. I would like about 9 or 10 a day.

The same as everyone else on both counts.

I would sleep about 8 hours a day, but my job messes up my sleep cycle. So I usually get either less, or more than 8 during a given 24 hour day.

Growing up aspie causes you to have fewer friends which causes you be introduced to naughty things like cigarettes, drugs, sex, and rocknroll, at a slighter later age than NTs get exposed to that stuff. At 18 I probably got drunk easier than the average college guy, but my tolerence went up fast. I seem to respond to caffine, alcohol, and to other over the counter, and under the counter, drugs, pretty the same as anyone else does. Never got into tobacco use though.

1. Don't do drugs or alcohol and don't plan on it.
2. I sleep usually anywhere from 7-9 hours a night. Which I guess is typical for a 17 year old.

1. I don't do drugs or drink alcoholic beverages.

2. Well I obviously need more sleep in the night instead of during the day, I'm a night owl & I stay all night & sometimes during the day too. Sometimes I sleep less or sleep more, it depends on my daily schedule.

1. I no longer drink but when i did, i was more sensitive to it. Another effect was it made me even more inhibited.

2. I find that i need more sleep than normal.

1. I don't do drugs or drink alcohol. I find that I don't respond to painkillers, but I've never had stronger ones like morphine.

2. I feel like I've always slept less and needed less sleep than others my age (I'm 16 right now). It's hard to tell right now because homework is making my sleep schedule quite erratic, even on the weekends. I think I'd naturally sleep for 5-7 hours right now if my sleep schedule doesn't change every night. I know that they recommend teenagers to sleep for at least 8-9 hours, and many of my classmates can easily sleep for 12 hours if permitted.

I don't drink (and don't plan to when I am of age), nor do I take drugs frequently at all (and then only analgesics etc.), so sorry - no answer to that question.
I usually get 7-8hr sleep per night, and that is sufficient for me. I can't sleep in.

1. I am highly resistant to alcohol and drugs. It used to take around 12 shots of straight spirits mainlined within a few hours to make any difference to me. I was still completely coherent after 6 - 8. This means I used to have to drink an insane amount to get any effects from alcohol. I have also been told in hospital that I'm drug resistant, and they have to dose me higher than recommended with anything to take effect. Same with recreational drugs. Things like caffeine, nicotine, etc seem to make no difference. Unfortunately this also seems to be the case with prescription drugs.

2. I seem to need a lot of sleep, but still never feel completely rested. I'm also nocturnal and have a severe sleep disorder so that may be the reason behind it.

I have a typical reaction to beer. I've never done drugs and I don't plan on doing so.

I get between 6 and 8 hours of sleep.

1. Never done those kind of drugs. I think I get drunk easier, but that probably has to do with size.

2. I get 7 hours of sleep normally and this is enough. I think that's in the average range.

I'd imagine the responses will vary as much as the rest of the population because these are just things that vary among people.
