This has been a problem since I was a little kid. If I get a sore, I will unconsciously pick the scab off, stick my finger in it repeatedly, and pick around the edges some more. It gets bigger and takes a long time to heal. I have two sores on my right leg, and I just can't leave them alone. When I don't have sores to pick, I tend to peel flakes off of my dry, cracked lips, pick my nose, or dig wax out of my ears. My hands have to constantly be doing something. Any ways to stop or reduce this?

Dermatillomania can be a stim and needs to be redirected to something a little less harmful, else you run the risk of infections. I know someone who has AS and does this (along with trichotillomania) and it has been VERY difficult for him to stop/redirect it.

I put plasters over them so I can't pick at them. If I pick the plaster off I put another one on. Though I'm not as bad as that, I'll pick at scabs and loose skin but never stick my finger in the sore.
