Are there any truly anti-autistic people out there?

I can't think of anyone I've come across who was truly and bigoted against autistic people while fully knowing what autism is in the same way I've known people who were bigoted against racial or ethnic groups, women, men, Jews, Muslims, Christians, atheists, or LGBT. I've known people all my life who were ignorant and misunderstanding of autistic people, most of whom didn't know myself or others were autistic, and the worst case being a person who thought autism and sociopathy were the same thing. But has anyone known anyone who hated autistic people in the same way white supremacists hate minorities?

I think there's definitely a segment of people who want autism to go away. Also some people don't believe it's real.

Yea, just go on youtube comments and pre-pubescent loser comment sections and see how many people label those they dislike as being "autistic". It's not insulting though because I've realized that there's a lack of understanding on their part, and that I TRULY know what the definition of autistic is.

I've never known any such people myself (luckily), but sadly enough, people like that do exist. For an example, see the post directly above me.

Autistic people are not necessarily recognizable as autistic on first glance. High functioning ones might pass as just weird and others will be seen as disabled but people won't necessarily know what kind of disability they have. Many people are hardly aware autism exists.

I guess that's the reason why fewer people openly hate on autistic people than on racial minorities, sexual orientations or the opposite gender. They're simply less aware of the existence of autistic people.

But that's changing as people become more aware of autism. When I was in school no one ever mentioned the word 'autism' except when we had to read 'The curious incident of the dog in the nighttime'. And even then no one would have called anyone else autistic, let alone considered that people who actually are autistic might be in the same school as them. I'm out of school for five years and now 'autistic' is a common insult in schools.

It's insulting to me. And I always found it super offensive.

I think "Trigger Warnings" are way overused but this is not the case for what follows. You have been warned. Those who do venture on should be aware I am answering the OP's question not saying most people feel this way.

Children with Autism Branded as ‘Witches’

Quote:
Across Sub-Saharan Africa, amongst the rural class, villages are completely thrown off when a child shows signs of autism. This has led to a problem in countries such as Cameroon, Nigeria, Ghana, Malawi, and Uganda where villagers consider children who are showing autistic symptoms to be witches.

Children with autism who are written off as witches often face torture and in some cases death because of their behavior. Churches organize meetings and rituals in attempts to exorcise them. These communities do not have a grasp on scientific understanding or research, so they chalk up a child’s behavior to something extraordinary or out of this world. They then penalize the children for it out of fear that they will bring destruction into their homes.

If you think this is just "uncivilized Africa" think again
Controversy over shocking people with autism, behavioral disorders
Yes the Judge Rotenberg Center where they treat autistic teens worse than hardened terrorists at Guantanimo is in "progressive" Massachusetts.

Then there are those parents who murder thier autistic kids, give them harmful treatments such as bleach enemas in an effort to make thier kid not autistic.

Should people with Autism/Downs/ID/other genetic defects be sterilized?

Should autistic people be killed and treated like vermin?

I can't believe this happens. This is so wrong and messed up. I just can't believe this.
