Hey I'm new to the board. I'm looking to get more information on stimming (rapid movements). I have done it for as long as I can remember. When I was younger my parents used to ask me what I was doing, and I would try to explain it. Back then (the 90s) I don't think autism was as well known so I'm not sure they understood what was going on. Anyways, I would say I am highly functioning so I only STEM when I am not around other people. Basically I will come home and start doing it. I never really understood what exactly I was doing until last year when I started reading up on it.

This is the first time I've ever written a forum post about it and I'm going to try and describe this. I will start rapidly moving my hands back and forth. This is controlled though, not involuntary I choose when I want to do it. So I start moving hands back and forth then I start visualizing this whole world I have created in my head. In my mind I created a whole series of fighting video games and I like picture people playing them. IDK how else I can describe this. When I was younger it was even more elaborate, I had visualizations of tons of different worlds. It's not like a hallucination its just something I visualize in my head. It's very hard to explain and as I get older I feel weirder and weirder that I do it. If I ever get a girlfriend I'm either going to have to explain it to her or just never do it.

Yes, stimming.

STEM = science, technology, engineering, math

Actually, I prefer STEAM, which = science, technology, engineering, art, math

Truly, I prefer art. 8)

I like stemming too.

Pruning plants helps them grow better.

And you can actually stim with stems.
Like twisting apple stems off the apples.

Stemming is anal sex.

I wonder if the OP is trolling.

Well, I didn't know that before, Raleigh.
Thank you for the explanation.
I've just gone back and edited one of my previous posts
to ensure that it is innocently
family friendly and work safe.

Stemming means to originate in or be caused by.

Therefore your stimming is stemming from your autism.

Anyways what you described is common and typical.

There's nothing wrong with it.
