Big broken promises
Hello.
As some of you may know, i love animals. I currently have a pet, whom i love and take care of very well.
My dad told me that i will be allowed to purchase a dog when i turn 18. However, when i asked him about this promise he said that "he technically can't stop me from doing it" and that he now doesn't mean it anymore since he will move in with his girlfriend.
I am very upset (because i won't be able to buy a dog) and because he lied to me by making the promise in the first place.
I do not know how to handle the disappointment.

maybe he meant it at the time, but the situation changed.
"lying" versus integrity
in any event, yeah something like that could be disappointing. but life goes on. at least, life goes on, as much with a dog, as without a dog.
my precious lil "parents" had the nerve to break various promises to me. they promised to send me to take karate. nope. when i won a scholarship for a trip to a foreign country, they promised to lemmie go. nope.
but hey whatever. and i broke some promises to them too.
if your dad does not usually break promises, then let it go.
if your dad often breaks promises, then do not trust anything he tells you.
in any event, however, come up with other interests, besides dogs.
at least you do not have to train, bathe, walk a dog.
you could still get a dog later.
