I don't slur my words when I drink. No matter how drunk I get. I have gotten drunk enough to have like a 4 hour black out. But I was told I didn't slur my words at all during that time. So i'm wondering if that is just a unique quality of me, or perhaps a quality of aspergers. Either way I would REALLY like to know why I am able to be coherent no matter what.

When I used to go out for pay night drink with colleagues, I'd notice that some nights (not all the time) I'd feel completely sober, despite having drunk enough to feel drunk. All that money for nothing!

The other thing I noticed is that NTs often change when they drink, a lot of them get aggressive or argumentative or maudlin or whatever, they can seem like another person, like you never really knew them - they really drop the mask, but I was always the same person drunk or sober, just a bit more easily amused when drunk.

PS Love the avatar.

I've known a lot of drunkards, so I can tell you that it affects each person differently. Some have their speech affected so that they slur, but sometimes speech isn't affected at all. I've noticed that a lot of people lose control over the cadence and volume of their voice more commonly than the actual words. There's one constant, though: being drunk pretty much halves your IQ.

Personally, I can't stand the taste and I've never drank more than a bottle at a time, so I don't know how it would affect me.

a bottle of what? a bottle of vodka would be rather enthusiastic!

i do slur, especially after one drink. and then i seem to get in control again, and don't lose it until i really drunk. i don't actually get very drunk anymore, as i don't like the feeling (especially the one the next day), and people act like such morons when they are - i don't want to be one of them. besides, one glass of wine is enough for me - cheap date, or what? ;)

My mom is an alcoholic. She sure does. But she talks more slow and cries and threatens to go driving and trashes the place and goes driving and runs over street signs more then she talks. I haven't been around anybody else who is drunk.

This guy sure did when he went on the radio drunk. http://www.streamload.com/mp3airchecks/ ... 5_2004.mp3

I have never been drunk simply because I can't abide the taste of alcohol. Probably a good thing: if I like something, I'll drink a LOT of it.

Drinking neither slows my thinking nor slurs my speech. I've noticed that lots of auties can't get drunk at all. That's the case with me. My dad gets drunk easily, though, so it's not a genetic thing. I think it's because our neurological differences cause us to be affected differently from NTs when we consume intoxicants.

I have an incredibly high tolerance, to the point where it seems I cannot get drunk at sea level. I had had 18 drinks in an hour before, and did not feel markedly worse for wear.

At altitude (6000-7000 feet) where there is much less air pressure and thus less air, it takes about a dozen shots in 1-2 hours to the point where I would feel inebriated.

I do not slur words, at least not as badly as I have seen others. I also do not get dizzy until I have drank much, much more. I attribute this to the fact that I am one of the AS folks that generally disregards their inners ears and balances more by sight. I cannot keep balance with my eyes closed, and will fall over when looking up at the sky if there are no points of reference.

Ironically, this means I cannot pass a sobriety test even when sober.

After a rather stressful night at work a few years back, I went home and hit it up with about 5 shots of brandy.

I felt really good afterwards, but in space and time, I really felt no different that I did before.

One afternoon back in november 1997, I got a call from a friend who had gotten wasted afterschool. He sounded no different than when he was sober, except he was more gregarious on the phone.

When I was little, my dad would often come home from a night of bar hoping all pissed up. He would then spend the next 12 hours or so hugging the toilet and even way back then I can't recall him ever slurring his speech.

yes after some heavy drinking I tend to slur words, speak incoherenlty, and stagger everywhere. I look an even bigger idiot than I already am percieved to be. i also feel real confident when Im drunk. Although I don't like to drink often because I am on meds and tend to get intoxicated real fast, and one day im afraid i'll go over board one night and something aweful might happen :( Their is also the whole drinking and driving I never drink unless I know I don;t have to drive anywhere or someone else is driving. I also don;t want to become an alcoholic.

I am like this too. I don't drink alcohol because
I don't like it's taste. I like bottled Lipton/lemon
ice tea and could drink bottles of it. So if I had
a taste for alcohol, lookout! But I don't!

Sincerely,

I used to be the designated driver when i was in my late teens ( you can drink at 18 here), we'd go out and get really drunk on cheap wine and I would always do the drive home. As long as people kept the music down and didn't try to involve me in conversatons I drove like I was sober.

My alcohol tolerance has dropped a lot with age, I had something like chronic fatigue in my late thirties and since then, my limit is about 3 standard drinks.

I rarely drink, but when I do, I feel lightheaded after two. That's enough for me. So I have no idea if I slur my speech when I'm drunk, because I don't drink enough to find out.

I prefer diet caffiene-free Coke.

I slur when I am sober, my worst nightmare is a cop stopping me and asking me to do the "walk the line test" and the combination of the two might land me in jail :x

I can't stand the taste of acohol either so I don't know if I slur more when drunk?
