To what extent is this true? I have taken Abilify, Risperdal, Seroquel, and now take Geodon and have gained about 30 pounds since I started Geodon 3 months ago. Can anyone definitely say if I will develop diabetes?

Did you try googling? The wntire web is just filled with information about the antipsychotic/diabetes link. Here's the entry on wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atypical_antipsychotic

Let's put it this way - read all you can about the health risks, make an assessment and formulate an opinion.

Well, it's not that simple. I was asking for an objective opinion. Someone who has more experience with this than I do. Perhaps even some percentage figures to really highlight the link. I have read all I want on it and don't like what I see. I was asking for a second opinion.

There seems to be a discussion thread on this at http://www.bipolarsupport.org/modules.p ... ic&t=12236

I don't know much about it, but I have read a few things on Mercola about the link. This is one from his blog:

Hope that helps. :)

I think that all anti-psychotics cause your blood sugar to go up. That is why i stopped my 8 mg of fanapt completely. I have enough issues on controlling the sugar diabetes and it is rough to control

All medicine comes with side affects. However if you want an objective opinion here is mine.

Take the medication as prescribed. Eat a healthy diet full of fruits, veggies, and whole grains. Limit processed sugars. Exercise. Talk to your doctor about monitoring your blood sugar. Get at least 7-9 hours a sleep a night. Buy a blood sugar monitor and keep track of it yourself take notes as to when you took it, what it read, and how long after eating or drinking it was. (Best read is after you wake from 8-12 of fasting)

Pretty much everything nowadays causes diabetes, from the food we eat to the medicine we take. It's kind of unpreventable.
