Local teen with autism embarks on road trip to help others

Quote:
15-year-old boy with autism was simply eating dinner one day when he was inspired to make a difference in society.

He and his family told our Bill Anderson after a year of hard work they achieved their goal of helping improve the lives of sick children.

"For almost a year, I've been collecting crayons and coloring books for all of the kids in St. Jude's research hospital."

Carter's mom Patti told FOX 29 while on their road trip to Memphis that Carter wanted to help and came up with the idea to start taking donations.

Carter, his mom and a few dedicated friends who supported the initiative packed up the substantial number of art supplies they collected. They loaded them in the RV and made it a sightseeing road trip to hand deliver them to St Jude's in Memphis.

"I feel truly blessed that he did this. He did this all on his own."

“My autism is not a superpower. It also isn’t some kind of god-forsaken, endless fountain of suffering inflicted on my family. It’s just part of who I am as a person”. - Sara Luterman
